Default Large Fire on Memorial Dr

Looks like a house or one of those mutli unit buildings on Memorial at about 6th burnt down, there appeared to be a dozen fire trucks, anyone here if everyone is alright or how it started?

I can smell that here by Globefish... thought it was a firepit or something. Seems to have been controlled by now.

Just saw on the news, a rare 3 alarm fire, no news on cause, and at this point not aware of any injuries.

I live a block away from it and my area was smoky as all hell this evening.

I haven't had a chance to wander in that area yet but I will tomorrow. There was a multi unit home in that general area which had been under construction but idle for a long time, most likely as a result of the housing drop. It would surprise me if that place "accidentally" burnt down.

The hobo factor has been higher this year in this area, as expected after the Cecil shutdown. I wouldn't rule them out.

This i agree with, there is always someone in my dumpster nowadays

As far as the fire goes, all of memorial from 6a to 9th is blocked off. Had to take the circuitous route back home.

it may not be so much because of the cecil, but rather because of all the new blue bins in the backalleys. I'm in the same hood as you and I can tell ya that our bin is picked clean of bottles about every other day.

I live in Edmonton and they rip open my blue bags and occasionally they'll blow around and all the bottles will go all over the place. That's why I stopped doing that but I'm too lazy to go recycle them somewhere

At approximately 1915 hours, The Calgary Fire Department
responded to the 800 block of Memorial Drive N.W. When crews
arrived, they reported that smoke was spewing from the west
wall and quickly gained entry. The interior of the building
was charged with thick smoke issuing a challenge for
firefighters to find the stairwell to the basement where they
believe the fire originated.

Three alarms (additional apparatus) were dispatched
following the recall tones where command called out the
original responding crews from inside the building due to the
escalating fire. Approximately 50 firefighters rotated
through assignments and the rehab station where they were
assessed and hydrated.

At Eau Claire last night it smelled like someone had a massive fire pit somewhere.
