Default Another scary-ass squid found

It's been making the rounds but looks like no one has posted this yet (although the footage is over a year old so who knows?). An unmanned Shell Oil deep-sea rover caught this footage 2.5km underwater in the Gulf of Mexico. Freaky.

Here's an article to go with it: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/n...agnapinna.html

Lucky for us those things like very deep water. This type of giant squid (big-fin) has yet to found in a fishermans net or washed up on shore like the other famous Architeuthis.

Heres the creature from a video shot 2.5 miles down off Hawaii in 2001

Doing some searching I came across this article.

"As I gazed, fascinated, a circle of green light glowed in my area of illumination. This green unwinking orb I suddenly realized was an eye. The surface of the water undulated with some strange disturbance. Gradually I realized that I was gazing at almost point-black range at a huge squid." Starkey walked the length the of the ship finding the tail at one end and the tentacles at the other. The ship was over one hundred and seventy five feet long."

I don't think these guys are Architeuthids, if that is what you meant. They belong to the Family Magnapinnidae.

Maybe this belongs in the confession thread, but is it wrong that when I clicked the wiki link and looked at the top of the page and the page name is "Bigfin squid" that I first read it as big f'in squid
