Drive-thru Etiquette
Alright. 5pm today, decide to grab a double-double on the way home from the driving range. As I'm just getting a coffee I figure the drive-thru is the best bet. There are about four cars ahead of me.
After waiting about a half-minute on one vehicle conversing with the speaker, I try to listen in. I distinctly hear him say: "do you have one of those coffee makers?"
A coffee maker? You want a coffee maker and you went through the frickin drive through? My buddy suggests we go inside at this point, so we park and go in. As we get in, we see a Timmy's employee walk by with a coffee maker box under their arm. I watch as they hand it to the idiot in the pick-up truck, followed by two Ice Capps. I get my coffee and my buddy's muffin before he even leaves the pick-up window.
So, seriously. What the f&&k? The drive-thru is for quick orders you ######-tard.

I personally think that people who do full office orders in the driv thru are more annoying than a guy grabbing a coffee machine.
There's nothing worse than when one person adds 6 or 7 minutes to everyone's wait time, and then you see 3 of those 4 cup holders get handed out the window, followed by 12 sandwiches, bagels etc. Just go the F inside!!

I find the drive thru atrocious for other reasons. First of all, if it takes more time than it does for my commute (30+ mins) the staff are doing it wrong. THey're constantly slow and when you finally get up there, you're greeted with a PO'd staffer who chucks your change at you and never says a word. Maybe get someone capable of running the till. Not some 15 year old who has to repeat your order 15 times. Yes, a coffee and a bagel. No, I don't want a donut. Just a ccoffee and a bagal. No, not an ice cap.... I get it. You dislike your job, or maybe sick of idiots who order coffee makers. But you know what, by the time I get to you, a smile and a hello would be nice...

I was actually gonna start a thread about drive-thrus as well, but not relating to what you've posted here.
Here's my beef (and I know I' gonna tick some people off here).
PLEASE...FOR THE LOVE OF GOD put people on the Drive-thru speaker that don't have such a THICK Indian, Asian or whatever accent!
It's hard enough understanding you through that cheap piece of crap speaker, I don't need your accent getting in the way as well!
Me: I'll get a double, double and a raisin bagel with straw-berry cream cheese, please.
The speaker (or what I hear): Ju wan to add a doo-no wit dat?
Me: What did you say?
And it goes on and on and on until I pull up to the window. I never understand what they're saying! I know that they're trying their best to speak CLEAR fluent English, but it's hard enough to understand you, while standing in front of you, let alone over a speaker.
Same thing goes for support and customer service line.
Ok...I'm done ranting.

Now, I may sound racist but this is one thing that I really really don't like. I understand that lots of these immigrants and such are willing to do crappy jobs others don't, and for that I really respect them. However, I hate...no, DETEST when I can't understand what on earth they're asking me. I know they're trying to be polite, and I do my best to be polite back but holy crap...sometimes I have no idea what a person is saying to me, so I just agree and then get something completely different than what I originally wanted.

You've never been to Airdrie's east timmys, have you? It's not always 30 minutes, but averages 15-20. It's why I rarely go there. It is the epitome of incompetence.

Park the car and walk in, it's generally much faster if you are in that much of a hurry.

I've 30 minutes in the drive thru. I remember back in the day when we'd hit the BK on McLeod after going to Crack Alley... The place was always packed at 2am and the drive thru had a really long 'L' with a curb. You get in that line and you can't abort the mission even if you want to. And with all the drunk friends in all the cars in frone of you harassing the employees and getting out of their cars and hitting on the carload of chicks behind them. Oh yeah. I've definitely spend 30 minutes in a drive thru on more than one occasion. The best ones were when we'd all get impatient and start honking. Sometimes the line would be 30 or 40 cars and when one persons started honking we all would. Fun times.

I once got held up in a Wendy's drive thru, and when I knew the person ahead of me had a big order, but when I got to the window the manager (I presume) was there with a big grin. I said, "Holy cow that took a long time" and he said the person in front of me had a $700+ order.

Not just in Calgary. In Olds before they built the second one you would have the drive through traffic backed up so bad it would delay traffic on the main drag.
I generally don't go through drive throughs as I like being able to check my order as I am handed it. We waited at a drive through one day for the person to reopen his little window for 5 minutes because he forgot part of the order and then he argued we sat in the car and ate it and now just want a freebie.

I had a guy at Starbuck's do that in front of me once, then he ordered more after.
I got my coffee for free, so I wasn't all that mad.

I'm sure there are big lineups in every city, no city is better or worse..... but if the lineup is huge, I'm either going somewhere else, going inside the restaurant or not getting the crap food altogether. If there's more than 5-6 cars, I'm staying away. I average 2-3 minutes per car and if the math goes over 15 minutes, there is no chance im going in that lineup.
My drive thru pet peeve is waiting in line to order, and then there's a small sign saying that debit or credit is down. I waited for ten minutes to get to where you order, then I see the sign and go nuts, but i cant go forward or backwards, so I essentially waited 15 minutes to get nothing expect an apology. If you're debit machine is not working, put the sign at the entrance to the drive thru.....is that so hard??
