JUST saw this....wow.

So much true respect for a guy like this....truly one of the icons of the business...ever.

He too was in on the fake moonwalk apparently.

Cronkite was before my time, but what a memorable voice. seemed like a decent guy, too. Hope I can make it to 92.

We mostly watched Canadian news but if we wanted to know the pulse of the American middle class, we watched CBS with Cronkite. I also remember his take on Viet Nam changing as he started to understand the foolishness of this war. Watching the body bags being loaded on the planes as we ate our supper, probably helped change some opinions.

He was at the centre of the news during probably the most eventfull decade in North America's history, what with the Cold War,the nuclear power, Cuba, racial unrest, drugs, the pill, free love, space exploration, Viet Nam, hippies, anti-war movement, draft dodgers, women's lib, eastern philosophy, any more?

One of the last of the great news guys, and the man who really created the strong transition from written and spoken news journalism to television.

To me this is a much more significant death in terms of significance then Michael Jackson.

+10000000000000000

It is a sad state of affairs when the death of a guy like MJ gets more coverage and attention than perhaps the most respected television/radio journalist of all time. A guy who disputedly had massive influence over the US pulling its troops out of Vietnam, and a guy that most US Presidents confided in. He pretty much covered all the big history changing/making events of the 20th century.

Instead it's "OMgodz!!1one1!1!11eleventy!!1!! Did u c the scaBz on MJ's LegZ?? "

Our younger generations are being taught that "TMZ: is journalism.

Modern society is so lame nowadays.

.

I will be devils advocate and disagree. Although I can't say I have had much experience viewing Cronkite, the guy was just an excellent interviewer and broadcaster, who filled a particular position. He was really good at his job.

Michael Jackson on the other hand was uniquely talented, and globally popular. There is no figure quite like Michael Jackson.

Just terribly sad that some 80s kids had nothing better than Jackson as a hero.
