Default Motorcycle Shipping

Does anyone have experience sending a motorcycle from Calgary to Vancouver?
I have contacted 2 transport companies and a moving company to get some info, but so far they have not been very helpful...

"Hmm I don't think so, let me check"

...seems to be the best answer. Rather than holding much longer thought I'd try here.

I understand I may have to build (buy) a crate around it and round up some DG paperwork for the battery. Just hoping someone has had to do something similar.

Thanks

Why Don't you just drive it there?

even if you had to fly back and drive it to Vancouver it probably won't cost as much as shipping it.

That would seem to be the easiest solution however the last time I rode a motorcycle I put it into a farmers fence. Course I was 12. It is not mine and I am not a rider.

The person who owns it took a job in Vancouver that has so far only given him a day off every two weeks or so. Sounds illegal, but he really wants to do lots of work. He is not sure he can pull off a fly to Calgary drive it back and still not miss work. But he would really like his bike there for the time off he does get daily.

I'd try contacting a motorcycle shop they may help find a reasonably priced option.

I rented a trailer to pull my motorcycle up from Montana cost about $200 IIRC

Most moving company would gladly take it out west. They usually charge by the kg. We moved a whole bunch of furniture out to shuswap and the guy had a car and a whole bunch of other stuff in the the trailer.

If I were a shipping company and you were trying to ship a bike by itself to Vancouver, i'd say no way. Too much liability for the bike to get damaged, and you can't stack it.

I'm just guessing here, but I would think the easiest way would be to crate the bike and then ship it, although this would be expensive. It would be a couple hundred for the crating and another couple hundred for shipping most likley.

Cratex in Calgary will crate.

Shipping companies to look into would be Yellow and other fright companies like that.

When I was 19 and I joined the Coast Guard down East, my Dad shipped my motorcycle out to me. He built a very sturdy crate for it and made sure it was quite secure inside. He didn't use nails... he used Robertson wood screws which made dismantling the crate very easy. My bike arrived safe and sound... not a scratch on her.

You drive it out there and I'll fly you back.
I'll even make you some sandwiches if you insist on stopping for a break!

Go to goldwingfacts.com and ask your question. You'll have to register first. It doesn't matter what kind of bike you have, those guys are brilliant. I guarantee someone there will know the best way to handle this. If you register, I'm MoneyGuy there also so be sure to send me a PM and say hello. BTW, if anyone has any questions (technical or otherwise) about motorcycles, that site is a great resource. Most times you'll get several responses within a few hours. And the advice is terrific. Just don't ask if deer alerts work.

I'm assuming the bike isn't in the Edmonton area otherwise I could be tempted to do this for you.
