Default Computer will not turn on

So last night my computer randomly shut down while I was playing a game. The power-supply was burning hot and I could smell burning plastic.

Now I am almost positive that the supply died on me but I have two questions:

1. Could this have damaged any other hardware?

2. Why were the LEDs inside the computer still on if the powersupply was dead?

1. Yes.
2. Your motherboard has a battery that keeps your clock running when your computer is off, and other such stuff... especially if they are LEDs on the mobo they could have been running off this battery.

Yes, but most of the time the rest of the computer is not damaged.

The power supply has different voltages/sections. One of the main sections could have failed, while the low(er) current lines are still supplying power.

Possibly the fan failed or was turning slowly and the unit cooked itself, or the unit was clogged with dust. OCZ has some good units and offer rebates. Newegg.ca has good prices, or locally Memory Express is decent.

edit * Van has no Memory Express, but there are a million computer parts resellers there.

I think it's because I macroed my pyroblast to play Ignis yelling "BUUUUURN! BURN IN THE MAKERS' FIRE" every time I cast it.

It just made everything go HOT =|.

What is the likelyhood this will have done major damage? (The shut down, not the WoW macro.)

Low. Unless it's a Dell, then almost certainly major damage.

Because of the smell, you prolly burnt your power supply. I've done that before when I added more internal drives without upping the power.

If it ever just powers down and doesnt stink or spark, then try turned the switch off in the back of the comp, then holding you power button int he front for 20 seconds. this will completely bleed out leftover charge and usually tell your comp its safe to start again

unless your power supply was total garbage, nothing else should be affected. i've had 2 blow up on me (due to a faulty powerbar, make sure yours is good) and nothing else was hurt when they went. the newer power supplies from the higher quality makers have safeties built in to prevent damage to your motherboard or other components if they fail
