Shao Lin Soccer

I have a question about this movie. I saw it and it is personally the worst movie I have ever seen. But than I check it on IMDB and some people are calling it the greatest comedy ever. Can someone explain this to me?

I dunno. I saw it, and I didn't think it was that bad. It was a play on Chinese culture mixed with international sport. It was a comedy, and nothing more.

If you hate this movie, wait until Kung Fu Hustle comes out.

Kung Fu Hustle is over the top, but less so than Sholin Soccer. Very good flick all in all, though, and one of the few movies better dubbed than subtitled. The director is sorta like a cross between Bruce Lee and a less-slapticky Leslie Nielson.

If you're not too familiar with the genre though, you'll miss the jokes.

If you understand cantonese and are familiar with Stephen Chow, you'll realize he's a pretty brilliant guy with intellectual humor mixed with slapstick. I personally think his films are among the funniest ever made but most times a lot if not all of the humor is lost in the translation.

That said, my parents hate Shao Lin Soccer.
