Best way to get rid of warts?
I have about 2 warts, one on my pinky and on my thumb.... been about 8 months. I tried Lactic/Salicylic Acid - did not work. So I decided to go to a Derm (recommended by my doctor) with laser treatment. I've been there 5 times, and the treatment does not seem to help. The doctor first freezes the warts with liquid nitrogen then fries the warts with the laser. Everyone I ask says this is the best method, but to my experience... my warts seem to keep on growing bigger and faster right after each laser treatment. This is getting very frustrating to the point where I want to just cut the wart flesh with a scalpel (lol not the smartest). I also don't understand how these 'warts' got on my pinking/thumb... I wash my hands all the time (atleast 10 times a day).
To your experience, what has worked for you in getting rid of warts?

You may have a case of Langar's Warts, which is a pretty rare condition where the virus actually attaches to the bone marrow in your hand and so can't be eliminated through conventional freezing or laser methods.
I had an uncle who had that on one of his toes. It got to the point he couldn't wear hard soled shoes and was going to work in sandals for a couple of months. He ended up having the toe amputated, which seemed to clear things up. Well, except for the missing toe I guess.

I used to have them when I was a kid, i found that when the doctor tried to freeze it, it was much more effective if i asked him to freeze it for as long as I could possibly stand it. although, it did end up killing some of the surrounding skin as well...

I had a ton of warts when I was a youngster(almost 40 yrs ago) I tried everything. Had them burnt off 2x. with a contraption that was much like a soldering iron. Compound W didn't do anything except make them multiply it seemed. Silver nitrate was another beauty. You kill off the top layer with the SN then sandpaper away the dead tissue til you basically started bleeding then apply the SN again. Rinse and repeat. Even tried the potato method. They just kept coming back.
Then someone told me about an ointment that was for ringworm called IIRC Whitfields ointment. It was cheap as anything, no pain and worked like a hot dam. I have no idea if this stuff is even around anymore but it worked for me.
Is it just me or does my post sound like a commercial?

My daughter had one on her foot and we tried a bunch of the Dr. Scholls things and a couple of other things that I can not remember, but they never worked.
I googled it and found some suggestions of apple cider vinegar on a cotton pad taped over the wart for night. We then took it off for the day and repeated this for a couple of weeks I think. It turned black and fell off and has not come back - this was a couple of years ago now. It may be a different type of wart, but it worked great for us.

My dog had a huge wart on his lip, took him to the vet. Vet asked if I wanted it surgically removed or the old fashion method. The old fashion method consisted of a pair of surgical scissors and a head lock. It was pretty disgusting but it is gone and hasn't come back.

this will sound crazy, but I had a wart on the ball of my foot for several years, and finally i just dug in as deep as i could with good tweezers and pulled out everything that I could right down until it got really tender. kept it clean and got rid of the tweezers and haven't seen the wart for over 6 years. I don't know, freezing didn't work, but physically digging it did. whatev.

I had what I thought were warts on the lower knuckle of my thumb kind of. I was bored at work one day so I put a new blade in a utility knife (thing was like a razor) and sliced them off. Whether they come back or not is still to be seen.

Keep trying all the different methods that you can find. Eventually one of them might do the trick.

I had one on my finger that I tried freezing etc and could not get rid off. I heard about the duct tape method and tried it. Just got some black duct tape, and wrapped it around my finger, kept re-taping, and besides washing, left tape on it at all times. It hasn't come back, got some questions around the office after a couple weeks though!

If none of what has already been mentioned works..........
- Garlic. Crush some fresh garlic, rub it directly on your wart, and cover it with a bandage. Apply new garlic every day and your wart will blister and fall off within as little as a week. Be careful not to get garlic on the surrounding healthy skin; it helps to apply petroleum jelly to the skin around your wart.
- Dandelion sap. Pick a dandelion from your yard, break the stem open and drip the sap onto your wart. Do this daily until your wart disappears. The sap will mildly irritate your skin, stimulating your immune system to get rid of the wart. Do not use dandelions that have been treated within the past few years with an herbicide.
- Vitamin C. Make a paste out of ground Vitamin C tablets and water. Dab it onto your wart and cover it with a bandage. The high acidity of Vitamin C will aide in eliminating your wart as well as helping to fight off the HPV.
- Banana or lemon peel. Cut a piece of the peel to fit over your wart and tape it on, inner side down before bed. The chemicals and oils in these peels will help dissolve and discourage warts.
- Papaya. Using an unripe papaya, make small cuts on the surface, allowing the sap to run out. Collect the sap and let it coagulate. Mix the thick sap with water and apply it to your wart morning and evening. An enzyme in the papaya will digest dead tissue.
- Basil. Tape crushed, fresh basil to your wart using waterproof first-aid tape. Do this daily up to a week and the virus-killing compound in the basil leaf will kill your wart.
- Castor oil. Rubbing castor oil on your wart every day will break it down, possibly because the oil keeps the wart moist, causing the tough skin to just come apart.
- Aloe vera If you have an aloe plant at home, break a leaf off and rub the gel on your wart. Repeat this daily and your wart will disappear, perhaps due to the malic acid in aloe vera. (If you don't have an aloe plant, learn how to grow aloe vera)
- Hot water. Because plantar warts are sensitive to heat, soaking your feet in hot (110- to 113-degrees F) water for 15 minutes per day can eliminate your warts.
And always remember:
- Keep warts covered, clean, and as dry as possible to limit the spread of the papilloma virus and get rid of warts faster. Wash your warts several times a day with hot soapy water and dry them thoroughly afterwards. Use a bandaid or adhesive tape (above) to keep the your warts covered. Wash your hands before and after touching any one else. Change your socks to reduce sweat build-up on plantar warts.
Other options:
- Nail polish remover applied directly to wart
- Tea tree oil applied directly to wart
- Super glue applied directly to wart
- Start a daily CoQ10 supplement regimen
- Cut a potato or pineapple in half, rub the exposed insides all over the wart for a couple of minutes before bed. Cover with tape or a bandage overnight. Repeat nightly until wart is gone.
- Bleach (a small amount, obviously) applied directly to wart
- White (decolorized) iodine applied directly to wart
- Blue-red light therapy
- Curcumin (found in turmeric) mixed into a paste and applied directly to wart. It is known to have antiviral characteristics.
Otherwise:
- Cantharadin (sometimes prescribed by doctors in place of salicylic acid)
- Immunotherapy (Intralesional injection of antigens (mumps, candida or trichophytin antigens USP) is a new wart treatment that may trigger a host immune response to the wart virus, resulting in wart resolution; distant, non-injected warts may also disappear)
- Liquid nitrogen / Cryosurgery
- Laser treatment
- Electrodessication / surgical excision
- Chemotherapy (Topical application of dilute glutaraldehyde (a virucidal chemical, used for cold sterilization of surgical instruments) is an older effective wart treatment. More modern chemotherapy agents, like 5-fluoro-uracil, are also effective topically or injected intralesionally. Retinoids, systemically (e.g., isotretinoin) or topically (tretinoin cream) may be effective. As warts are contagious, precautions should be taken to avoid spreading.)
- X-ray (this is an old method that is seldom recommended due to the long term adverse side effects of irradiation)

I've had really good luck with homeopathic remedies. My son has taken Thuya Occidentalis for his planter's warts and, if he remembers to take it daily, in a few days to a week, they turn black and fall/peel off.
