Default Home Electrical Issue - Stove Not Working

...looking for some insight.

When I test each of the two (red and black) hot wires with respect to the neutral, they both read 110 volts...when I test them together it comes out as zero. Makes sense since some smaller items on the stove (the digital clock and the oven light) work, but the larger functions don't.

Anyone out there that can possibly offer some advice?

Could be a bad plug on the stove. Try flipping the breaker off then on. Thne try it again. Short of actually being there that is all the advice I got. Oh and you should be getting a higher voltage than 110 off a range plug. Should be 220v if my memory serves properly. Definitely try the breaker first step.

The clock and things like that do run on 120v, the stove elements and all are 240.

Sounds like the voltage at the wires are OK, have you checked the fuses inside the stove?

Other than that, I suppose there could be a broken wire or otherwise loose connection or broken contact or something where the wires go into the stove.

Be careful when checking this, 220v (even 120v) is no joke.

It's not the voltage you need to worry about, it is the current.

...it's not the stove itself...this is what I thought at first...checked all the fuses, even went so far as to haul another (working - I checked before hand) stove in, and same issue.

As I stated, I checked the voltages at the stove plug and was getting 118ish volts from each of the hotwires, but together it's like they are cancelling each other out...

Are the two hot wires out of phase with each other? I don't know how this would happen - I'm not an electrician, but if it did, they could cancel each other out, yes.

I would try replacing the wall socket if you are confident doing that. It sounds to me like the wire voltages are correct but perhaps the connectors in the socket are damaged somehow such that contact is interrupted when stoves are plugged in.

Yes, indeed, sorry that I didnt make that more clear.

Also, I would be very surprised if the phases changed, since it did work before (right?) - was someone working on it and/or the panel?
