Default 10 Days in Ireland

I'm going to Ireland for about 10 days in late July. We are going to the U2 concert in Dublin. Has anyone been to Dublin and/or around Ireland before? What are some must see's (besides the Guiness brewery and the Jameson factory)?

Go to a hurling match. Cheer for Clare.

Good thread idea, was just thinking of going there myself to check things out (although perhaps even to see how it is to live there!). Seems like a very beautiful country.

Bring cash though, Dublin is apparently about as expensive as New York or London.

The Cliffs of Moher are touristy as all hell, but stunningly beautiful. And driving through the countryside to get there is very pretty.

Galway was probably my favourite place in Ireland. Lovely little town on the west coast.

If you're wanting to party it up in Dublin - which is a hoot - try and make some local friends who will take you to pubs/clubs outside the Temple Bar district (pricy tourist bar central - English hooligans coming in for the weekend to fight each other). The most fun I had was at little pubs scattered around various parts of the city. However, I can recall none of their names.

Messers Maguire was a good spot, right downtown. That's all I can remember though (I went there a good few times).

Trinity College is a beautiful campus to explore.

Take your golf clubs - my best golfing trip ever was to Ireland.

Also, bring an umbrella (or five).

I spent 10 days in Ireland in 2002 with a friend - we started in Galway (flew into Shannon) and then ended up in Dublin - basically did a route through the south part of Ireland. Hit Killarney, Cork, Kinsale, Kilkenny all along the way to Dublin. I'd personally skip Cork but the other areas that we hit were very very nice. Did a couple bus day trips to the Cliffs of Mohr (based that one out of Galway) and the Ring of Kerry (based out of Killarney). We stayed in hostels the entire way.

If you hit Kilkenny (which if I remember is a couple hours from Dublin) - you can hit the Smithwicks factory. Kilkenny is just a really really nice small city - huge castle you can tour, churches, etc. It was a very relaxing city, unlike Dublin.

I imagine getting wasted will and should compromise a great amount of your time.

Avoid St. James Gate Brewery.. it's over-priced and the beer is terrible when you get to the top.

Go to Doolin and find a pub and order mussels. I got a plate of 77 for 11 Euros.
