Perez Hilton - Got what he deserved?
Just a warning: Most of the video links are NSFW.
By now most of you might have heard about the altercation between celebrity blogger Perez Hilton and Will.I.Am of the Black Eye Peas.
Basically there was a verbal altercation outside a Toronto nite club between Perez Hilton and Will.i.am. Something to do with Perez writing unfriendly comments about Fergie, the band and the their latest record. Anyway Perez verbally attacked Will.I.Am and called him a "F&%*ING F**GOT"
See video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72965OxzdOA
In the video you can clearly see, and hear, Perez use the slur.
I guess later on Perez saw Will.I.Am again, and this time it got physical. The Black Eye Peas manager, Polo Molina, punched Perez in the eye. Later that night Perez took to the web (Twitter) asking for help and...well....read this link:
http://jam.canoe.ca/Music/2009/06/22/9885241.html
Anyway, Perez goes onto make a video the next day describing what happened. Then Will.I.Am does the same thing. So it's the same old "he said, she said BS." See these links for Perez's "statement" of what happened:
Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIm7lX_L2to
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Wt6x...eature=related
I normally read Perez Hilton.com for the celebrity news. I also read TMZ and Entertainment tonight. I have to admit there is something fundamentally different about the Perez Hilton site: He's a jerk. He constantly points out flaws, makes fun and calls people different slurs. Not really necessary when you're supposed to be reporting the "news".
So...I ask all you this: Did Perez Hilton have this coming to him? I know violence is not an answer for things, but people can only be pushed so far. I mean...he used that disgusting slur against Will.I.Am...and admitted to using it to "set him off" or what ever his exact words were.
I guess later this week Perez issued a statement apologizing for using the slur. For a guy that is very active in the gay community, and seems to always stick up for gay rights and promote them, I was surprised that he made that slur.
Here is a statement released yesterday from Perez:
Quote:
From the heart:
"Words can hurt. I know that very well, from both sides of the fence. The other night in Toronto, after feeling physically threatened by a verbally abusive Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas, I chose the most hurtful word I know to hurl at him. I was in an out-of-the ordinary situaton and used a word that I would not utter under normal circumstances. My intention - however misguided it may have been - was to stand up for myself and tell this belligerent man that I had enough of his badgering and was not going to continue to let him berate and intimidate me. I wanted to hurt him with the word I chose, not anyone else. Unfortunately, the one who got hurt was me and, subsequently, a lot of other people. I wish none of it had happened. I can't take it back. I did what I thought was best at the moment to stand up for myself in a non-violent yet still assertive way. Clearly, I am not homophobic. Also, I am not nor have I ever claimed to be a spokesperson for the gay community. I am just speaking for myself, a gay man. One who is labeled "flamboyant" in the media. An American that is not granted equal rights under the law. I will continue to speak out for equality and I will continue to say things that upset both gay people and straight people. Who I am as a person and what I do for a living are two separate things. I've come to terms with all my incongruities and am proud of who I am and what I do. In closing, words can hurt. But words should not provoke someone to violence. Stripped away from the mask of Perez Hilton, I have been extremely bothered by the public reaction to my assault. Violence should never be condoned with such statements as "It's Karma" or "I don't believe in violence but….". In fact, several television and radio shows over the past couple of days echoed the sentiment "He had it coming". Would they have said the same thing if I was a woman? Would I have "deserved it" if I had been stabbed? Or shot? Or killed? I was attacked from behind without warning and repeatedly punched in the head in a cold, disgusting and unnecessarily violent manner by Polo Molina, the road manager for the Black Eyed Peas, who I did not even speak with that evening. I did not share any words with him and his assault on me was completely unprovoked. I feel like everything happens for a reason and I leave this traumatic experience as a person with more compassion. Specifically, there was an instance last year when actor Jesse Metcalfe was attacked outside of a Hollywood nightclub by a fellow entertainer. I did not condone the violence, but I did make light of that situation. I regret that. Sincerely. There are many ways to deal with disagreements, both good and bad, but violence is never the answer. Never. I now know that first-hand. It should not be condoned, promoted or accepted. No one "deserves" to be the victim of violence. No one "has it coming." NO ONE. And victims should not be ridiculed. I look forward to marching for equality in Washington, D.C. this October. And I look forward to standing up for my rights in a Toronto courtroom shortly, as I fully intend to seek every lawful remedy against the man that attacked me."

Comes across a little fake, if you ask me.
Anway...yah...did this guy "have it coming" to him and "deserve" it?
If I'm missing any information please include it in the thread.
Cheers!

I don't think that piece of crap should be allowed into our country. I'm sickened that MuchMusic even brought him up here for their crappy awards show.
I wish people would just ignore him and his website so that he would just go away.

I guess I was just really surprised that someone who actively "stands up" for gay right, etc, etc...would use a slur like that against someone. IMO using the slur flushing all his "credibility" for standing up for gays, down the toilet.
I was also looking at gauging the CP community and see if you guys think he "deserved" this or "had it coming."

Perez Hilton and the TMZ people need to get a life (lives, I guess). Sad that they have enough of a following to even exist.

You would think that he shouldn't be surprised- you insult a member of the Black Eyed Peas and you end up with a pea sized black eye. Should have seen that coming.

Perez Hilton may have deserved it, but it was still illegal to punch him. You can't punch someone for insulting you. They have to be actually threatening you.

I just really enjoy the fact that he twittered for someone to call he cops instead of... y'know... calling the cops. I didn't know much about the guy before this fiasco, but now I want to punch the guy in the face.

The guys a mean spirited idiot with an attention whore complex a mile wide. He has no use in society except for his key market who are morons with an inferiority complex.
Good for the Black Eye Peas Manager, I hate their music, think that they're a cookie cutter run of the mill pop band that put on incredibly sh$tty live shows.
What kind of an a##hole gets punched out and then twitters for people to call the police for you. Yup you guessed it, a guy that saw that he could get some more attention if he whined and cried about being wronged and punched out.
Whatever happened to men solving differences. In my day if you insulted one of my friends behind their back, or gossiped or started rumors, chances are your getting your lights punched out, after that you deal with it, you either fight back, or you lay in an fetal position calling for your mamma, but you fricken make your stand. You didn't tell the world that the big man was mean to you, the situation was dealt with.
I have no problems with Gay members of society, but people like Hilton give all gays a bad name because he plays the role of the wheepy weak girlish gossiping overly flamboyant homosexual to a tee, and morons out there take the cue that this guy is the rule not the exception.
He shouldn't be speaking for the gay community because he is the caricature of something that they probably don't want to be associated to.
And thats my wisdom for the day chilren
