Default Samsung LCD Ghosting

So I bought a Samsung LN32A450 (32" LCD, 450 series 720p) and it has really good sharp picture for the most part. When I put in Blu-rays and there is lots of motion, mostly during dark sequesnces, I get horrible ghosting. It's so bad it distracts us from the movie.

I thought maybe it was because my PS3 was set to display 1080p when my TV is only 720p, so it was dealing with more info than needed, but after changing resolutions this was not the case.

Anyone have similar issues? The TV is billed as 5ms response time. I know I didn't buy the absolute BEST TV, but for a 32 I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg, and when you buy the world leader for TVs you expect even the entry level units to perform.

Anything I should try? I'm going to call Samsung if I can't figure anything out. Could it be the cable? I bought Rocketfish brand when I worked at Best Buy because it was like $6 on my discount and had a 1080p/120hz speed rating.

Well, fwiw, you aren't alone on this.

As to the cause/cure.... hard to say. I doubt it has anything to do with the cable, but keep in mind that almost exclusively, whatever "ratings" the cable has are just bs advertising hype. That doesn't take away from the fact that cables rarely cause problems such as this.

Here's one thread with a little more discussion on the topic. Try their suggestions first.

Here's the official thread for that series of TVs. It's 42 pages, so you can peruse it at your leisure should you so desire. More than likely, this issue has been discussed at some length in the official thread.

Ghosting is a terrible problem on LCD TVs, as they typically have very slow response times.

Some have motion-rendering chips that negate the effect of a slow response time, by phasing out the ghost and filling in the empty spaces.

Unfortunately, taking a brief glimpse at the threads OBCT linked you can tell that this model has nothing that really negates that, so you are seeing 5ms refresh in all it's moderately inadequate glory.

Take it from a gamer, even 2ms is not fast enough for those of us attuned to framerates and whatnot.

Sometimes adjusting your settings will help with your TVs performance, especially taking it out of a torch mode.

Here's the settings recommended by the CNET reviewer for your model, which can be used as a starting point, and turn off the settings that he recommends to turn off, such as dynamic contrast and edge enhancement.

It has nothing to do with settings or cable. That is an inherent factor of LCD panel technology and even down to specifically what type of LCD panel is in your TV.

I'm sorry, but there is really nothing you can do to fix the problem other than a different panel or technology.

While it is an inherent factor of LCDs and different panel types can be better or worse, adjusting the settings can help performance. Why else would the new TVs, when labelling the inputs as PC or Gaming, have the TV automatically go into a setting that adjusts the TV for best response times by turning off the gadgetry and only allow some settings to be changed?

Having said that, it is a good idea to do some research on the TV you want to buy before the purchase and even than buy from a store that has a 30 day return policy.

Oh yeah, apologies to the OP as he probably already has the settings as the link to the review was in his opening post. I can be pretty dumb at times but I still stand by my statement that adjusting the settings can improve performance.

That seems to be more along the lines of a static image retention, not really trailing or ghosting.

A for effort though!
