The group has sent Obama a device that traps a fly so it can then be released outside.

Interviewer: "What do you think of that fly's execution?"
Obama: "I'm all for it."

Usually when you say stupid things, it's because you believe stupid things. Good on ya, PETA - marginalize yourselves some more! Stop the Fly Holocaust!

That cost the American taxpayer 1-2 million dollars for that fly swat.

ALL ABOARD!

I'm usually all for bashing PETA but this time the media ran to them for a reaction after it happened because they wanted a reaction. Now they're posting headlines like "PETA Condemns Flyswatter in Chief". PETA just used it the media to get their message out again. This time, PETA didn't seek out the attention they just took it when the media brought it to them.
Quote:
President Obama’s ninja-like moves brought the fly down in impressive fashion. Into the media firestorm of the Presidents assault enters PETA:
Quote:
|
As we all know, human beings often don't think before they act. We don't condemn President Obama for acting on instinct. When the media began contacting us in droves for a statement, we obliged, simply by saying that the president isn't the Buddha and shouldn't be expected to do everything right—if not for that, we would not have brought it up. It's the media who are making a big deal about the fly swat—not PETA. However, we took the opportunity, when asked, to point out that we do offer lots of ways in which to control insects of all kinds without harming them, including the humane bug catcher we sent President Obama.
|
PETA simply took advantage of a situation forced upon them by the media. The President swats a fly, everyone calls PETA for a reaction. Many exaggerate: "PETA condemns Obama", etc. The fact is that PETA is a media savvy animal rights organization that will take advantage of every situation to plead the case of animal rights.

Wow. I wish we could round up these PETA nuts and throw them in the Colosseum with Fred Phelp's gang and Scientologists and watch them all fight to the death.

Unfortunately, PETA is getting exactly what they want out of this. Attention.
PETA is probably the biggest scam in the world after Scientology. All they want is for their name to be out there, because no matter how outlandish they are, there are plenty of morons that will give them money to misallocate.

Plus, the vegetarian diet that most PETA members have would make them extra tasty for lions.
But if you're assuming no wild animals, I think the fight would easily go to either the scientologists or the Phelps followers: the Phelps followers because they're experienced with chaotic, potentially violent confrontations; and the scientologists because they're well organized and have so many idiotic low-level peons who will do whatever they're told.

Well, I certainly don't have evidence to prove otherwise, so with no way to prove you wrong I guess we'll have to believe your claim to be truth.

I'm a vegetarian AND believe in animal rights. Almost vegan; near impossible to cut out cheese. However, I just can't be the Dalia Lama who says that he will let a mosquito bite him as "the mosquito is just doing what it needs to survive" and "it is doing what comes naturally to it". Uh, yeah, but at my expense. It's attacking me. And who knows what kind of diseases it is carrying. I personally know many vegetarians, and none, not even the vegans would let a fly land on them and let it go. *sigh* As a vegetarian I feel I have to apologize for PETA daily....
But I do often feel guilty about pointing flies out to my cat. Far less torturous of me to get a newspaper and put the fly out of its misery quickly.
