Authentic Jersey: Worth it?
As many of you probably are aware, FanAttic has authentic jerseys on for $199 until probably the end of the regular season.
I have always had replica jerseys. After a couple years, my current jersey is starting to look a little ragged. The logo is pretty frayed, and I definitely need a new jersey.
In your opinion, are the authentic jerseys worth it, compared to a replica? I am particularly wondering if they are a fair amount more durable.

Unless you play Ice hockey in them I say go for it. Otherwise it's not worth the price for a replica.

I would argue that an authentic is definitely 'worth it' however it really depends on what you want out of it.
For me, it is of great intrinsic value that I have an real piece of equipment that the pros play in and enjoy having those extra details that make an authentic different (not better) than a replica. It is also fun to spot a fellow fan with an authentic but I believe it is worth the extra price for more than just those little things.
I'm not shooting down replica jerseys as mine are still in great shape, I always wash in cold water and hang them up to dry. I wouldn't necessarily say that they are made of lesser quality however I suppose it depends on how you take care of the jersey, how often you wear it and how much beer and nachos are stained on there.
Just my two cents and to each his own.
p.s. I was told the sale is good until the end of the season.

I got an authentic I bought 21 years ago that looks better than my wife's 4 year old replica. Just don't wash it a whole bunch, they're much more durable.

If it was worn by a player, yes. Bought from a store, no. I don't think it's worth the extra, but that's just me.

Get a replica if you want a player's name on it, but an authentic if you want to keep it uncustomized.
I did it the wrong way and now I have to choose whether I want to wear one of my plain replicas or my authentic Phaneuf.

If you want the collectors' value, don't buy authentic, buy game used.
Also, if you want game issued (but not used), visit Meigray.com during their summer sale. You can buy the exact jersey to be worn on the ice for around $100.

Probably discussed at length in other threads, which of course makes it perfect for another....but where is the best place to buy a jersey?
Jersey City? Pro Hockey Life? Is there something/somewhere better?

Well, it depends what you're looking for, but Meigray is the official distributor of Game Worn jerseys from 15 teams in the league (including Calgary).
When their summer sale comes around and their stock is 50% off, you can conceivable get a common Flame player for $150-$200
On the other hand, I personally wouldn't wear a game worn jersey around, especially to a hockey game where I know the person next to me will spill his nachos and cheese on it.

That used to be the case, but MeiGray stopped selling game issued jerseys at the 50% off summer sale price. However, you can still get a game used jersey or $200-$250 (plus shipping).
The only problem with wearing a game worn/issued is that they are usually size 56-58, which means they are huge on the average sized person...

I seem to recall that at the Christmas sale, the GI jerseys were half off. I could be mistaken, though.

I have owned both and I definitely think that the Authentic is worth it. Way way more durable and long-lasting.

Every pre-season I have problems committing to the name for my jerseys. By getting replica jerseys, I can get several lettered and it gives me choices of who I want to wear to the game on any given night. I got a couple of new ones two months ago and had the lettering stitched instead of heat pressed. I didn't know that was an option on replicas. In the future, I'll always choose stitched letters even with replica jerseys.
