Default Real estate agents

We just purchased a new house not long ago. Is it normal for your real estate agent to give you a house warming gift? Just wondering if that is a common thing. Thanks.

Totally normal. And it'll almost always be a gift instead of cash because it's against either RECA or CREA rules to give away cash in that way.

I would say that it would be abnormal if they didn't get you a house warming gift. Now more than ever realtors need to do the soft touches as many argue that you don't even need them anymore so they have to grease it up a little. I wonder what kind of scaled down gift basket these guys give out......http://www.twopercentcommission.com/

The agent is trying to worm its way into your family and slowly replace you. Be prepared.

The only thing we got from our real estate agent is a monthly newsletter and several e-mails from her trying to get referrals. She was even too busy to show up for the final walk through. Not impressed.

Ours has become a very good friend and totally helped us with the whole immigration process. Introduced us round - made banking and legal affairs very smooth. (Helen Willy)

We received a fancy looking vase, which sucked, because why the hell would I want a vase? It was for the girlfriend, but that's okay, because said agent knew I thought she sucked bag. We weren't exactly at the height of the market and here's the advice I'm given:

"Well, I think you should offer list price"

"...List? What?"

"Yeah, seems like a reasonable price to me"

*silence... awkward feet shuffling*

"I don't think I'm going to offer list."

Sweet, thanks for being MY agent. Deplorable.
