Fishing in Calgary and Area????

Need some help.

Want to take my little guy fishing, but don't really want to venture to far out of the city.
Does anyone know where we can go fishing?

I have heard that North Glenmore park has fishing spots.

Looking somewhere in south Calgary or just outside of Calgary obviously going south or west.

We are just looking for a spot to do some casting with a regular rod and reel.. not fly fishing.

And yes I know we have rivers to fish out of, but would rather do like Pond or lake fishing.

As you can tell I am avid angler.. hahah

Go to Spruce Meadows....there is a little pond just beside the entry....my 6 year old pulled a big one out of there 2 days ago...just about every time we go we catch fish and it is quicker for us vs going to the river....

I was under the impression that the floods from a few years ago took out the allen bill pond and it became part of the elbow river system.

Not saying that there couldnt be fish in there, but I thought it degraded the previous "fishing pond" feature that it was.

While on the topic of fishing in Calgary, anyone know any spots where you could get a wheelchair close enough to the water? I'm working with a guy right now who used to be an avid fisherman and has 6 different rods but since he's been stuck in the chair hasn't been able to go. It would make his summer if I could find a place where I could wheel him close enough to the water's edge to cast a line.

Carburn Park is nice place for a picnic and the fishing is particularly good for kids. They also have a dock you can fish off of.

I can vouch for Carburn park and the Glenmore res and decent spots to go in the city.

I mentioned this in another thread but if you go to the west end of 90th ave in the SW there is a little parking lot. Walk from there down to the Res and it is actually quite secluded and a nice area to go fishing right inside the city.

I believe there is even a dock you could potentially get a wheelchair onto right by the sailing club on the South side of the res as well. I haven't been there in a few years but I have seen lots of people fish off the dock in the past.

Carburn Park has a series of 3 ponds. So if your kid get bored one place you can always go check out the other ones.

I think they took the dock away from Carburn Park. It wasn't there last year.

If you want wheelchair accessible fishing, you could always try ice fishing...

Last year, I had some success with Pike in the Reservoir, near the dam. This year, nothing yet.

The Glenmore Reservoir is interesting in that it supposedly has every fresh water fish species known to man. The key word there being "Supposedly".

Thanks everyone for the advice.We went to Carburn park and it was great.. Had a bite on the first cast.

And to Save us Sutter Carburn had a handicapped section designated on the map. You want to take a drive and take a peak first as I am not sure if that is for fishing or just for viewing.

I can confirm that the Res has Whitefish, Perch, Rainbow and Brown Trout, and Pike from actually having caught them. My first summer fishing there when I was a kid we saw massive bottom feeders moving around in schools at the Heritage end.

I haven't caught anything this year at the Res. hoping to get out to some quiet lakes around the city soon.

To add to your list, last year, I saw a dead burbot floating near the shore.

Goddamn I hate those things. Greasy slimy disgusting fish. Great to eat but Christ...just gross.
