Rights to UFA D Hal Gill

To Atlanta:

2009 2nd (Buffalo)

We picked up Hossa and Knuble as UFA's this summer and shipped out Hecht and Gill as they could not be signed due to cap restraints. We've traded most of the UFA's that we needed to. There is only 1 (maybe 2) left on Atlanta in which they need to be dealt.

Flames are happy to pick up a decent defensive defenceman. I don't think a late 2nd rounder for a 75 ov Gill is that bad of a deal. This has the Flames top of Brewer, Gill, Girardi, and Wisniewski. Not the greatest but already better than last year.

The Flames have 4-5th round picks, I am willing to package a couple together to move up. Also the rights to Colin White are available.

Well lets be honest that was one deal thats come and gone and may not be around anymore. If every team tries to use that as a measuring stick they might not make any more trades this year.

This one might be a bit expensive for the Flames in that they could have waited to see if Gill keeps his current rating. But if every GM is waiting to get another Ryan Smyth for a 3rd round pick, they might not find anything to be had.

I agree with Syl, really hard to compare any deal with different players involved. Each GM values every player differently, some top guys are similar but overall hard to compare deals.

For example if Luongo was shopped to all teams, he might've gotten more or less depending on the players that appeal to Syl. Opinions will vary thats what makes it fun.
