I for one welcome our new Japanese overlords. Maybe they can stop the out of control extension cord theft that happens all around the world.

The Japanese are way off the ball. America invented Transformers like 30 years ago and they're just getting into it now?

That thing doesnt even have any guns. Silly Japanese, weapons of mass destruction are for...well....used on you, not for you...Koreans maybe?

That's nothing....They recently had a 60-foot fire-breathing baby terrorizing the Roppongi district of Tokyo.

Wow. maybe you shouldn't comment on robots if you don't even know what Gundam is. haha. Transformers are japanese by the way. Hasbro bought out the japanese company who originally made them

Not only does it have a gun but it also has 2 Lightsabres!!! Plus unlike a transformer i can actually pilot one of these things. Unless Optimus Prime doesn't mind me sitting in his inner organs.

Default Gundam - Wiki

Quote:
Gundam is a metaseries of Japanese anime, featuring giant robots, or "mecha", created by Sunrise studios. The series started in April 1979 as a TV series called Mobile Suit Gundam, and later became a franchise name with more sequels, prequels, side stories and alternative timelines, published and aired in various media including TV anime, OVA, manga, novels, and video games. Gundam became a collective term for 7 different time lines, all featuring their own story-lines, with a few common denominators and war machines called Gundam.

Mobile Suit Gundam is said to have pioneered the real robot era of mecha anime.

Unlike its super robot cousins, Gundam attempted a realism in the robot design and weaponry, by running out of energy and ammunition or breaking and malfunctioning like all machines do. The technology (at least in the Universal Century) is practical and is either derived from true science (such as Lagrange points in space and the O'Neill cylinder as a living environment) or at least well-explained, feasible technology, requiring only a few fictional elements to function (such as Minovsky Physics as a means of energy production from helium-3).

My brother was a big fan so I knew a bit about it. Really good anime series for beginners. Big super robots fighting each other, what isn't there to like

Sadly, it does not have a 1:1 ratio minovsky particle generator.

Hasbro did not buy out Takara. It's a mutual liscensing agreement. In the 80s, Takara sold Hasbro's G.I. Joe line in Japan (as Action Force). And Takara was bought out by Tomy recentely.

Gundam for Japan is more of a cultural icon. It would be like a Mickey Mouse statue in America or something...wait that's a bad analogy. I can't really think of any American analogues. Maybe a John Wayne statue. Most of Gundam actually sucks with lame storytelling and crappy animation and is only good in the memories of the kids who grew up in that era. There's a few good ones here and there (0080, 08th MS Team are virtually the only good parts of Gundam).

There was actually a pretty sweet movie made a number of years back with the same kind of thing. Giant robots would duke it out in an arena as a way of settling disputes instead of going to war. Not bad all things considered, forget the name now though.
