Question Kitchen supplies? I need a big stockpot, cheap!

Hey CP,

I am hoping to have a Louisiana style crayfish boil in my backyard! I need a really big stockpot, but I can't spend a ton of money as just getting the crayfish shipped up here is not cheap! Any suggestions where I could get one?

XS Cargo.

Not great quality, but it'll get you through the day.

There's a restaurant supply store on either 5th st or 4th st between 58th ave and 53 ave (right by blackfoot trail). You can buy some seriously bad ass cooking supplies there.

edit** I remember that it's on the west side of the street and it's about halfway between 58th and 53rd.

There used to be a really good place right beside that crab shack by the cecil hotel. It's in the same strip as the crab place at the north end. You can miss it if you don't look, I don't even know if they have a sign. It's a dingy place but full of great cheap stuff. It's where a lot of small restaurants buy their stuff from. Iron frying pans for $10, at the mall they'd be $100, just aren't name brand and will hold up a million times longer.

There are 2 of them, Russell's Restaurant Supplies and Crown Restaurant Supplies.

Crown is 2 blocks north of Russels, both are on 4th St, just north of 58Ave.

Just don't get aluminum, it simply won't hold up and will corrode and discolor with the type of use you are suggesting. Cheap stainless steel is better. But you would be surprised at the prices at the 2 stores I mentioned.

Failing that, WalMart and Zeller's, even Canadian Tire have big pots like that, not sure if they are stainless steel finish though.

I'm like 90% sure I've seen setups for exactly this type of thing at Bass Pro Shop, and Wholesale sports. They even come with convenient baskets that fit right inside so instead of fishing your crawfish out of the boiling water, you can just pull out the basked and you're good to go.

Yup, here you go, you can get a 22qt aluminum one with a basket for $50.
They should have them in the store.

I'm guessing you watched an episode of Good Eats this week that was about crayfish boils.

You know it!

My dad has talked about doing this for years, and that episode pushed me over the edge!

You have a number of good suggestions here. One that I will add, if you want cheap, is IKEA. They carry a number of things for the kitchen for a reasonable price.

But if you want quality for not too much more, I'd go with one of the restaurant suppliers mentioned.

If you want cheap (and likely not very good quality) try Benix. They're in most major malls... look it up in the phone book.
