Question Looking for a golf partner(s)?

The new golf season is coming up fast as the courses should be open in about 8 more weeks.
I try and get out at least once a week, usually on the weekends (although you wouldn't know it by the way I usually play... ). My average score tends to be around 100... some times lower, sometimes higher.

Now I'm a member of the Maple Ridge Mens Golf Club so that means I am guaranteed a tee-off time once every two weeks (we play bi-weekly on Saturday mornings) but that means I am usually scrambling for a tee time the other weekends, and since I don't have a regular playing partner, I usually go by myself and play as a walk-on single. Not much sense in booking a tee time for one and its usually pretty easy to get on a single walk-on.

Anyways, I'd like to try something different this year.... Say book a tee time for a two-some of four-some and then post the time and date on here looking for available playing partners... kind of like posting when you have flames tickets available.
With the Maple Ridge Golf club (a city owned course... but very nice though), you can book your tee time 4 days in advance.

Does this sound like anyone would be interested in doing with me and others if they want to do the same thing? Another reason I'm doing this is because last year I got a great deal on passes to play at Turner Valley (two-for-one type thing - some could be used on the weekends) but the majority went unused because I didn't have anyone to play with.

So what do you think? Any golfers out there looking for playing partners? Great way to meet CP'ers, good excuse to get out of the house on a regular basis, have a couple of beers, smack a golf ball around the course, and improve your game.

That's actually not a half bad idea. Who's up for a quick nine at the fox hollow? Knowing them they're probably already open.

I tend to get a ton of golf in as most of my friends play but I can never get enough. I would definitely be in for a few rounds it's just a matter of when as this summer is turning out to be pretty busy.

I usually play as part of a 3some so this would be a great idea. Maybe post up which weekends you have and then have people sign up. I have only ever played maple ridge once and I really enjoyed it.

There definitely seems to be some interest in my idea..

So I guess what I'll do is, when the golf season is upon us, is book a tee time for 4 people (me and 3 other CP'ers who are to be determined later) on Tuesday morning (you have to start calling about 6 AM IIRC) if I'm booking for Saturday at Maple Ridge, and Wednesday for a Sunday booking. (I usually like to tee off some time between 8 and 9 AM).

Then I'll post, on the day I booked the tee time, that I have 3 open spots in a foursome for a particular date and tee time, .

First 3 people to call dibs get the spots. I'll pm those people, my name and the booking number that the course gives out when you book your tee time.

Can't you just book the tee time under Rerun to avoid confusion?

You'd think that would be easier now wouldn't it..
but no. City of Calgary insists on having a real first and last name as well as an address so you can get one of their call-in tee time booking cards, which you need in order to book tee times over the phone.

They like to keep a record of people who book but then are no-shows. This is from the City of Calgary Website...

No-Shows

Be courteous to your fellow golfers. If your plans change please cancel or reduce the number of players in your group in advance so that others have a chance to play.

A no-show is defined as:
  • Failing to honor your tee time reservation
  • Checking in for a tee time with fewer players than your original booking and failing to notify the golf course a minimum of 1 hour in advance. If we are unable to fill the foursome with walk-on players, you may be assessed one no-show.
No-Show Penalties
  • No show penalties apply equally to bookings made with a personal barcode or a credit card.
  • Two no-shows will result in the automatic suspension of booking privileges for 14 days.
  • Further no-shows will result in penalties up to and including suspension of booking privileges for the remainder of golf season.

.....By the way, weekend green fees are $44.00 for 18 holes for the 2009 season, at Maple Ridge golf course.

i think you can book online now too! from what I remember last year

a course to look at might be Boulder creek too, not to far and if rates are same as last year a decent value (near the end of last year) and if you sign up on their website they send you a coupon for a free round before mid may.

Yeah... they had a pilot project last year where you could book on-line 4 days in advance.... but the problem was that you couldn't book on-line until 7:00 AM whereas you could phone in and book a tee time starting at 6:00 AM. By 7:00 AM all the decent weekend morning tee times were usually gone, so there was a definite advantage to doing it by phone instead of on-line.

However, looking at the website now, I see the city has changed their booking policy. You can now book by phone or on-line 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. I asume that if you want to book for Saturday you can go on-line at 12:00:01 AM Tuesday and start booking tee times for Saturday.

I'll have to check into that. I also want to see if I can get the same coupon deal I had at Turner Valley, this year. Its a real nice course and a great deal on the green fee price.

Edit: Just registered with Boulder Creek and got my coupon for one free round of golf. Thanks for the tip FlamesKickAss.

Thanks for the heads-up on the boulder creek course. I'll take a free round anyday. Too bad the course isn't a bit nicer.

Great idea guys.

Any Edmonton based CPers want to do a summer weekly golf game?
