Default Brentwood Development?

I read about this a while back (around Christmas?) that the area around the Brentwood cTrain station was going to be redeveloped and that leases etc. for many of the businesses in there were not being renewed.

Does anyone know anything more about this?

I remember thinking at the time that I'd love to get in early on a new condo development, but don't want to miss the boat.

Any news? Thanks!

This is the latest I could find: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/calgary/sto...n.html?ref=rss

Any development will probably be years from now, and will probably be vehemently opposed by all the people who like the quiet little community they have (ie. seniors)

Thanks - I think that's probably the article I read back in the day.

All those pretty blue mock-ups in the picture - I want a unit in one of those....someone pls build me one.

Any insiders with info?

There was a meeting back in December where the area plan was passed through first reading but a transportation study was commissioned. The plan will undergo second and third readings this fall. There is a vocal NIMBY group in Brentwood trying to speaking out against the development, citing concerns over the usual stuff like crime and increased traffic. Luckily there is also a vocal pro-densification/urbanization community that is making sure council is being provided with both viewpoints.

Here is a link to the plans for the area from the city:

It's rather interesting how these seniors (who dont work and therefore have time to go to meetings to bitch) are deciding the future of a city that they most likely wont even be around to take part in.

These people don't give a crap about a historic building being torn down in the inner city (which most likely they havent been to in 20-30 years), yet they always raise hell about replacing some decrepit strip mall.

Seniors vote. Young people don't.

Seniors have money. Young people don't.

Guess why they have proxy, and you don't.

That was a pleasant surprise! I was planning on speaking in support of the new ASP but I decided a letter would suffice as most of what I was going to say had already been said.

I find it funny that the first shovel in the ground won't be for infrastructure or foundations but rather their grave.

One of the biggest arguments the local residents are making is the increase in traffic, which I personally don't understand. I think the main purpose of developing this close to the Brentwood train station is to reduce the amount of cars on the road, by allowing easier access to transit, as well as placing other amenities within walking distance.

I live in Sunalta currently, and one of the main selling points when buying the condo was that the Sunalta train station would be a block away from my place...
