Default Advice on these laptop choices.

So I'm going back to school this semester, figured best have a laptop to fit in with the young whipper snappers.

I'm looking to keep it around $700 and basically its mostly going to be used for music, some video, and of course school. So wifi, wireless is a must, and some reliability would be nice.

This is the 2 I have narrowed it down to, the Lenovo is great cause it has xp pro, but again I've heard Vista isn't horrible anymore.

So any advice would be much appreciated.

Lenovo $667

Toshiba $679

I have a Toshiba similar to the one you have listed but the 17 inch version, portability isn't a huge factor for me, just mobility around the house. I'm happy with it and caught a sale where the 17 inch cost as much as the 15 inch, win win situation. Downside is the battery dies faster however with the 15 inch screen it should last longer because they run on the same battery type.

Both are going to be worth what you're paying. I usually don't recommend sub $1000 laptops since the build quality is lacking across all brands in that market. I'd almost recommend buying a used laptop of a higher quality... but that's my own view on things.

I'd get the computer with Vista. XP is too much of a pain in the ass to deal with -- better not to deal with it if you're using this PC for school. Vista has it's own share of issues, but it's generally nicer to deal with assuming the computer has the horsepower (both those laptops do).
