Ugh. I just heard a bit of his speech on QR77. What a tool Ignatieff has turned out to be. You should have heard the BS he was spewing... Things like "The economy has gone down in the last year under Harper" DUH! Ya think?

So the Liberals are attempting to gain power when the economy is showing signs of recovery and then blaming the economic collapse and the deficit (which they pushed for) on Harper's government.
What is going to be really sad is when a large part of their platform involves protecting scum like Omar Khadr because it is politically savvy.

That's entirely it . . . . . it's now or never before the economy starts to take off again.

What's childish about an opposition party threatening to topple the government in a minority situation? That's exactly how our parliamentary system works.
I don't think an election this fall is really a good idea for any party, but there's nothing childish about it. Did you think it was "childish" when Harper toppled Paul Martin's minority government three years ago?

Corrected. I don't think the childish behaviour is limited to the opposition.

Seriously?
Obviously, the original mess of the economy wasn't Harper's fault and now the economy is recovering much faster and stronger than was projected. Harper's doing or not, the economy is doing better than just about everyone projected so the logical thing to do is... topple the government and attack him on the handling of the economy?
I was seriously considering voting Liberal the next time around but this move and the reasons he claims are behind it are bats*&t insane.

Hopefully there is no election until Spring, I really dont want an election before then. Although I think if there is to be an election, there will be one sooner than later. Really hard to say what the outcome would be. I dont see a majority for anyone - Libs could take minority if they can finally over take the Bloc in QC.

...And there goes me ever voting for the Liberals again. I hoep the Liberal MP in my riding is getting ready to pack his bags. He won the riding by less than 100 votes (my vote being one of them).

The Government may change hands but nothing will fundamentally change unless there is a breakthrough in Quebec.
I would bet that the Liberals have got indications that Quebec might be breaking or at least softening.

Which is it, because you cannot have it both ways. If it was not Harper's fault the economy took a downturn (which I believe), it's not his doing that it's in recovery if those forces are completely out of his control (which I believe). And if I recall correctly, Harper wasn't even going to table a stimulous plan if it weren't for the Liberals pushing him to do so. Either way, I can't wait for Dr. Evil to be out of office.

Ignatieff will lose an election and be back in the US within 2 years. Honestly other than power what is he here for? He's as American as apple pie, which is ironic considering how badly the liberals demonized the states under Cretien and Martin.

The Liberals will gain seats (they certainly won't do worse under Ignatieff than they did with Dion as leader), but probably not enough for a majority barring any major campaign gaffes by the CPC. An election now will almost certainly result in either a weakened Conservative minority or a Liberal minority (or god forbid a Liberal-NPD coalition majority).

I've never voted Conservative in a federal or provincial election, but I'm probably going to start if this thing actually goes forward in the Fall. Nothing but power-mongering on behalf of Ignatieff and crew. There is no good reason to call an election this Fall, except that Iggy wants to be PM.

I'd love a "None of the above" option.
None of Canada's political parties have done much to inspire me; as a matter of fact, the partisan politics and mudslinging have left me feeling very disconnected at any level.
