Default Draft essentials

With our draft now under a week away - we need to collectively make sure we are all ready. The draft can drag on for endless hours if even a couple GMs aren't ready.

In preparation of the draft have you:
- Checked the draft order list to make sure the right picks are assigned to you?
- Created your own list of players you want?

If you aren't able to make the draft is someone picking for you...if so please post that person's name in this thread.

On draft morning - we will use a dedicated thread for picks. HOWEVER you must also be logged in on MSN.

GMs must be able to make their picks around 60 seconds after the last pick. I will warn you via MSN if you are taking too long. If a GM is slowing things down their pick will be relegated to the end of the round.

If there is a trade on draft morning you must let me know via MSN.

Finally - as per CPHL rules any player that was eligible but un-drafted last year can be signed as a free agent. If you have signed such a player please post the name here.

Any questions?

Oh, I get to make the first pick....very exciting. And yeah, Wednesday works just fine.

Slava, can you get me your list by Wednesday as well? Thanks.

I know you are picking JT first overall but i'd honestly go with Hedman at 1. I think he will turn out to be the better player long term. You can't go wrong with either one though of course.

I agree that either will be good but and based on the little I have seen both players, I think JT is better.

Hedman I think will be the better NHL player but fantasy wise JT will be more valuable.

I have only ever see Hedman play in the WJC and I thought he looked "okay".

However JT in the same tourny was outstanding....

Will be interesting to see who goes #1 in the CPHL and NHL draft....

^Agreed but I think a #1 dman like Hedman ultimately is a more rare thing than a #1 centre like Tavares.

The easiest way to explain this is....

If a player has a birthdate of 9/15/1990 or older, he was eligible last year and you sign him as a free agent.

Players born 9/16/1990 until 9/15/1991 are eligible for selection this year. Anybody younger than 9/15/1991 isn't eligible until next season.

Guys on the Stars that have been signed as free agents include:

Alexander Fallstrom (69th NA)

We also sent an offer in on Corban Knight (64th NA), don't know if his 'agent' has accepted it yet.

Thrashers sent an offer in on Sergei Andronov (24th ranked European).

Also another note in that the 2nd ranked goalie in Europe is on the Blues already in the CPHL (Koskinen). The 1st ranked NA goalie (Hackett) is already in the CPHL as well.

And I have Matt Hackett, the 1st Ranked N.A goalie. This should hopefully stop some teams from picking these guys on draft day.

EDIT: Actually, mods, it might be worthwhile to create a new thread where we can post overagers that have already been signed by clubs who are entering this draft. It may help the draft process.

That's part of the reason for this thread - so there is a list of those players.

JT was outstanding due to the play of Cody Hodgson. JT is still a damn good player but Hodgson was a huge factor in his success at the tourny.

How JT was named the tourny MVP over Hodgson is still beyond me.

Agreed.

Also JT is the best offensive player in the draft but he isn't the most complete forward. Matt Duchene is the most complete forward in the draft. He'll likely be the #3 pick in both drafts but some media like the Red Line Report as him at #2.

I'll be camping this weekend. I have just two picks. A 3rd and a 5th. Unless I trade these picks by then can you just give me the highest rated goalie prospect at that time? I take the KG approach to the draft.
