Default co-workers and facebook

Just curious to what everyone does when they have co-workers who add them on facebook? I wouldn't call these people "friends" so I dont particularly want them snooping my profile, but I am a bit worried about blocking/restricting them as they might take offense, perhaps cause other issues?

What have you all done?

let them take offense and dont add them, that said I have a couple on mine but I trust them. if you ever piss the off and you happen to say something that isnt appropriate or have different pictures and they run to your boss about it.

you can just add them...then wait a few weeks...and delete them. they will not be notified of deletion.

then act as if it was a facebook malfunction. repeat process with future encounters

also, wait a few days before you add them, as if you 'forgot' to check friend requests

You can create groups of people within Facebook. I've done this for people I work with. They aren't allowed to see tagged pictures of me, my wall, status updates, comments and a couple other things. Basically anything I can't fully control.

In the past when you limited your profile the changes would be sweeping and many or all of your friends would be affected. Now you can be very specific about what individuals or groups of people can see on your profile.

I killed my facebook account because I got sick of people adding me as friends when I barely know then, or don't like them. Sure you can say that you don't need to accept the invite, but when it's someone kinda related or something, it's pretty rude to decline a friend invite.
I used to go on sprees where I'd go and delete all the people I didn't really like, but within a few weeks, people would start adding me again, so I just deleted my account altogether.

Coincidinkely, there was a recent news article on this . . . . . . the suggestion was that you would have one Facebook profile where you post party hearty pictures of yourself and another Facebook profile where you are sitting demurely in your cubicle.

One is for friends, the other for co-workers.

I add people. I have no problems as I am not in the age bracket (28) that puts there personal life online.

i have co-workers on my facebook. but i also have nothing on there i am embarrassed of. so i have no problem with my boss or my mother or anyone else seeing something that makes me blush.

i was excited that you could add people to groups for the chat feature. i hadn't been able to use that for a while when at work because i didn't want co-workers to see me online all day. now i put them all in a group and have them always set to the signed off status. its much improved.

I know my sister (who plans on starting a career in journalism) did a really smart thing. She changed her name on facebook to a nickname that only good friends would be aware of. Now she really only adds people she wants and old drunk photos won't come back to haunt her if she ever makes it big in the media.

Niresh,

1 day leave absences do not require a medical certificate as stated in my contract, provided I have stated that I am on leave for medical reasons.

Thanks

Hi Kyle,

Usually that is the case, as per your contract. However please note that leave during these occasions is only granted for genuine medical reasons. You line manager has determined that your leave was not due to medical reasons and as such we cannot grant leave on this occasion

Hi Niresh,

My leave was due to medical reasons, so you cannot deny leave based on a line manager’s discretion, with no proof, please process leave as requested.

Thanks

Easiest answer is don't have one. But them I'm not in the generation who lives on Facebook so I can get by quite easily without one and stick to LinkedIN. Anyway, I was reminded of this:

8. Profiles to private
If you don't think interviewers Google you or look you up on Facebook or MySpace, you're crazy. Hiring managers I've talked to all do this, as one put it, "to weed out people who wouldn't be a good fit in the company's culture." Don't give them ammo to not like you, set your profiles to private.

It's only a problem if you air all of your personal dirty laundry and drama on your facebook account..................which irritates me to no end even when my "friends" do it.
I only add office folk that know me well to begin with.

I know what you mean. When I first signed up for Facebook I added all my relatives(it automatically added my entire Hotmail list), including aunts & uncles, and now because of it I really have to watch what I'm saying on there. I hate that. And it's not like you can suddenly just change them to "limited profile", they'll know something's up.

It's seriously only a matter of time before I delete my Facebook account. I think once I start teaching next year I'll get rid of it, especially with some of the horror stories I've heard about students getting into their teacher's Facebook account. I barely use it anyways, so the pros don't outweigh the cons for me.

The first step for me was turning off the wall. Got embarrassed a couple times by friends posting something stupid on my wall and me not logging into facebook for a few days. Nothing that your elder relatives wanna see more than "F*** dude... We sure did get wasted on saturday!!".

I pretty much only use facebook to play scrabble with a couple of friends.

I've been contemplating deleting my account for months. I never add photos, message anyone or really check in on any of my friends profiles. All the people I want to talk to I can call, text or email. So really, what's the point of keeping it? But for some reason, I just can't bring myself to delete the account!

Here comes my negative nelly take....

Facebook is poison, i never understood why it took off the way it did.
I always thought the people you wanted to keep in touch with you did and besides a few long lost friends you lost along the way all that comes along with it is unwanted attention.

Like your situation right now, youre in a spot because you dont want to be rude and reject their friend request but you dont really want them on there either.

Why is facebook so popular? 2 reasons. Old people can use it and think they are 'connected'. But more importantly the 'ace' can be dropped in place of 'uck'.
