Default Germany bans Red Bull after finding trace amounts of cocaine

http://wjz.com/consumer/red.bull.cocaine.2.1019040.html

Quote:
Six German states have told retailers to stop selling Red Bull Cola energy drinks after a test found a trace amount of cocaine.

The bans started Friday after a sample test conducted by authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia state found 0.4 micrograms per liter in the drink.

According to a Time.com report on the German authorities' analysis, the amount of micrograms of cocaine per can of the drink does not pose a serious health threat. One would reportedly have to drink 12,000 liters of Red Bull Cola for negative affects to be felt, according to the Time.com report. However, German authorities are still concerned.

Five other states in Germany also banned it from shops amid concerns over possible narcotics law violations.

Just an FYI, Red Bull Cola is different than Red Bull Energy Drink.

Still, WTF are they thinking?

Returning Cola to its roots?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coca

Original Coca-Cola would have had trace amounts of cocaine as well

It absolutely did but that was due to inability, at the time, to filter all of it out. Once the technology was developed to filter Coca-Cola properly, it no longer had any cocaine in it.

There is no excuse for Red Bull Cola.

Must of been a mistake. Maybe an employee dropped a baggie into the vat.

No way they would purposely put that much in since it wouldn't do anything. The amounts they are talking about are pretty negligible. You'd probably find more on your average dollar bill.

Yeah, I have a hard time believing that this would be a production decision because at the end of the day the company would have to purchase an absolutely massive quantity of cocaine that I think would likely be noticed by the authorities.

Its more likely they were lazy on maitenance or some part of their productoion line. When you make Coke you still use an extract of the Coca leaf so I would asume that whoever is producing the extract was trying to cut costs and allowed trace amounts to get through.
