While the decision doesn't make me terribly happy...Isn't kind of irrelevent? I mean they are using the loans that were given to them by the government to pay for the pension and theoretically the loans need to be paid back. So isn't a wash in the end anyways?

And really...they could have chosen to spend the debt money on paying off other debts or creditors and then used other money to pay off the pensions. It's just words.

What's the big deal with bailing out bankrupt auto companies? Nortel has laid off over 10,000 Canadian employees over the last couple of years but there doesn't seem to be any bailouts there.

It's just about the unions having political clout and Harper caving to them.

The taxpayers' money that is being sunk into AMERCIAN auto companies would be better spent creating a CANADIAN automaker instead IMO. It really galls me that my tax money is being used to bail out foreign, probably corrupt and certainly mismanaged corporations. Protect the jobs, sure, but do it by using those billions of dollars to create something Canadian instead.

There is no doubt at all that the auto companies going under were mismanaged for the longest time.

Which is exactly why I don't support bailing them out, OR paying for their stupid pension plans.

These companies should crash and burn, the unions should be shut the hell down, and everything should start again from the GROUND up.

But hey, lets throw away billions of dollars that are grandkids are going to have to pay back because we don't have the balls NOW, to tell these companies to screw off.

My thoughts exactly. Why should I bale these idiots out. Obviously they can't run a company, they lose billions of dollars, so why again should we give them money so they can continue to do this? I understand many people will lose their jobs, but as stated, why should we bale out an AMERICAN company. Let's start our own with the amount of money we are putting into this truly dreadful company.

Why not phone BMW, Audi, VW, Fiat?!, Seat?, Skoda? and tell them to start selling more cars here, or come over here in the first place. We got tons of people who can work in the factories.
