Uploading a DVD to youtube

I have a DVD video that I'd like to upload to youtube and I can't seem to figure out how to do it. I've looked online and everything I find requires me to download some piece of software for 40 bucks or so.

Is there an easier way?

Only used it once a long time ago. Probably will do the trick for you.

VLC player is another option: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
Encode the dvd to a format acceptable by YouTube then upload.

It's a horrible interface though that requires a high level of patience to get things working right.

Would handbrake work for something like this? It's my free dvd ripper/video format changer of choice.
