Thousands beaten, raped in Irish reform schools
Quote:
A fiercely debated, long-delayed investigation into Ireland's Roman Catholic-run institutions says priests and nuns terrorized thousands of boys and girls in workhouse-style schools for decades — and government inspectors failed to stop the chronic beatings, rapes and humiliation.
|
Quote:
It concluded that church officials always shielded their orders' pedophiles from arrest to protect their own reputations and, according to documents uncovered in the Vatican, knew that many pedophiles were serial attackers
|
Both the church and the Irish government should be absolutely ashamed of themselves and embarrassed by their inactions.
The perpetrators who are still living should also be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible....but they cant.
Quote:
But its findings will not be used for criminal prosecutions — in part because the Christian Brothers successfully sued the commission in 2004 to keep the identities of all of its members, dead or alive, unnamed in the report. No real names, whether of victims or perpetrators, appear in the final document.
|
Just way too hard to fathom the depth and scope of this stuff....and the continuing coverup is yet another black mark on that fine country and on the Catholic church. Just repulsive.

Yeah... normally i would place blame on the persons who dids...regardless of religious affiliation. But in this case it looks like they were covering stuff up for a long time and thereby becoming co-conspirators in the crimes against these children.
Though i am sure the CC has never "preached" such behaviour as part of its teachings...they are just way to complicit in this to allow it to just fade away.

The Pope is quite possibly the most ghoulish person I've ever seen ... he gives me the creeps. He looks like a zombie.
As for the Irish Reform school story, our natives who went to residential schools say hi.

WHAT? What judge decided that this is appropriate, and under what circumstances? Victims I can understand, but how is it valid that the perpetrators are allowed to remain anonymous in this?
That is probably the most morally outrageous part to me. Abuse happens, and while it's not something that should be tolerated, at this point it's pretty much expected. But this protectionist crap that keeps these people from being persecuted properly is appalling. These people are supposed to be representatives of God, and if this is the terrible crap that they're doing then what is that supposed to lead a non-believer to believe about God?

Non-believers don't believe these people are representatives of God.
This latest scandal doesn't change anything.

Seriously, I wasn't suprised at all. Sickend, yes, but not suprised.
They need to bring back public lashings.

This is where the commission should start to get careless with this list. Accidentally leave a CD with it at the local coffee shop, lose a laptop here and there...

and people why i'm so against organized religion. it's impossible to avoid the corruption and abuse of power with an entity as large as the Catholic Church
Scientology is the popular new religion to hate with how they run their followers into the poor house, but the catholic church has been ruining lives on a much larger scale for a lot longer

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23 “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’
--- Jesus' sermon on the mount. (Mathew 7)
These people should be punished, regardless of faith or lack thereof.
