Ball Hockey Tournament

Hey I am organizing a Ball Hockey Tournament in Edmonton this Saturday July 25th and possibly the 26th depending on the turnout. It would be 6 man teams (one goalie) and $20 per player. I am aiming for 30-50 teams. The prizes would be pretty swell (all cash).

I will be renting out a hockey rink and some games would be played on an outdoor rink as well.

I'd have to see what our rec hockey team's schedule is like in July, but I'm sure we could find a few guys on the team wanting to go out.

What level of ball hockey are you targeting? A friendly (yet competitive) game, or a game where you better wear lots of equipment for protection? What rules in terms of slapshots, number of players (3 on 3? 5 on 5?), goalie equipment, game and tournament format?

I play some pick up ball hockey on a weekly basis with some friends, and I might be able to recruit some of them if it is a type of game we'd like to play.

I am not too sure on how competetive the tournament will be. This is the first tournament that I have organized so I dont know the teams that are going to enter. There might be some more competetive teams and then some more recreational type teams.

I will post the rules later tonight and it will maybe give you a better understanding of how competetive it will be.

Rules

• One goalie and five players
• 4 on 4 with one substitution (not including goalie)
• Slapshots allowed
• faceoffs only to begin game
• minimal body contact allowed
• Same infractions that apply to ice hockey (one ref for each game)
• continuous 20 min games with immediate play after penalty, goal, or ball out of play
• No equipment necessary
• Street hockey pads for goalies recommended ( ice hockey goalie pads allowed)

These are the rules that I have come up with. Feel free to make suggestions. And there will be a rule sheet handed out to every team at registration.
