Default Manny Pacquiao vs. Ricky Hatton - 05.02.09

Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao VS. Ricky "Hitman" Hatton

I'm just curious to see if anyone else is following this fight set for May 2nd in Las Vegas.

I've been reading predictions/previews and watching 24/7 on The Score, and the hype around this fight is incredible.
So I'm just wondering what CPers think of the fight and more importantly what your guys' predictions are.

Personally, I say 9th Round TKO.

Here's some stats from a blog:

Manny Pacquiao -241
Ricky Hatton +221

Manny is a big big favourite, it would be very surprising if he didn't win comfortably.

Yeah, Manny *should* win, but I wouldn't lay that kind of juice on it.

PPV at my house! The wife and kids will be in Lethbridge. Billings looks exciting compared to that...

FWIW, Pacquiao Ko in 7.

NEVER bet against Freddie Roach.

It's going to be interesting cause Hatton's got FMW Sr. as his trainer this time around.

I think Pac-Man wins, but if I were to bet on this I'd have to take Hatton. He's fully capable of pulling the upset and +221 screams value. People forget that Manny has been hurt before. If Ricky goes to the body, he can do some damage. I expect Ricky will slow the pace down, move in with small flurries and then hang on. I think we'll see a lot of that - Ricky with 3-5 punch combinations and then a clinch...and if so, there's no reason Ricky can't stop Manny in the later rounds. But if Ricky stands there and trades all night, Manny wins this one easy. Looking forward to the fight!

Edited to add: The one thing that does worry me about Ricky, is his tendency to balloon up 30-40 lbs between fights. His beer-swilling benders are legendary. At his current age, that sort of thing is going to catch up with him. Especially against an opponent like Manny, who is always in formidable shape.

An excellent article from the best writer in boxing - Ron Borges:

http://www.thesweetscience.com/boxin...e-fat-brawler/

And from another article, a colourful Hatton quote:

“I may be fat. I may be round. But guess who is going to be the best pound-for-pound?” Hatton said.

Another good story: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...x.html?eref=T1

I'm personally hoping Hatton whoops his butt. I normally like good guys winning, but here in Toronto, too many people conveniently follow Pacman because of his nationality. I absolutely hate occasional fans who pretend to know it all in any sport.

You could argue the same for Hatton also.

On the undercard, Canadian Benoit Gaudet will fight for a world title against Humberto Soto. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a chance of winning - but at least he gets a shot on the big stage.

I'm beginning to think Pacman destroys Ricky. The rumours about a fallout between Hatton and Floyd Sr. may be just that. But Sr. is such a wingnut, they could very well be true.

There were also reports Ricky got KO'd by a sparring partner in preparation for this fight. That's disconcerting, if true.

Wow...can anyone beat Pacquiao? I guess the next big matchup will be Pac-Man vs Mayweather. We'll see what Mayweather has left in July.

Wow, no way I expected a 2nd round KO! What a dominant victory by Pacquiao! It was fascinating hearing how he mainly worked on perfecting his left and right hooks and actually seeing it come to fruition during the match. Up next, Floyd Mayweather. Hopefully Hatton is alright. When he was leaving in the ring you could definitely tell that he didn't know what the heck was going on.

There was only one Ricky hattonnnnnnn.

Now there is none Ricky Hattonnnnnsssss.

Pacman ate him for dinner! what an awesome fighter. Can't wait for him to beat up both Floyd Mayweather Jr and Sr next. He can fight them both in the ring at the same time. Even throw in Uncle Roger.
