Post Hockey calgary - boundary review

So, The opportunity to comment on on the proposed changes to Hockey Calgary's association boundaries has come and gone (April 20th) and the impending vote is approaching (April 30th). Where do you stand?

While on the outside looking in, there is the potential for a lot of anamocity between the associations with community rinks and the ones with out.

My situation puts me in the "For the changes" catagory and I personally see a lot of positives coming out of the changes. Short term "sharp" pain but over all long term gain.

While I may not be seeing the full picture, what I'm hearing is most of the complaints are around "little johnny having to change teams because of geography" and/or "this is our rink and Hockey Calgary is just trying to seize control over it".

Again, from the outsider point of view (I say "outsider" cause I recently moved and would be changing associations regardless and also, my new community doesn't have their own rink, nor did my last) I can't help but think that the ruffled feathers are coming from communities that have had "the good life" with their very own practice ice and their own rink, minutes from thier front door. These would be the same or similar communities that have had the same kids playing with the same kids for years.
I'll admit, there is definite community value in that, but if there is one thing I've learned from minor hockey, it's politics. In some communities, you'd see situations where kids are held back, moved up or placed in certain situations due to parent squables, or the reverse. Not exactly a great situation for the child and his/her development.
Ideally, the changes to boundaries may be a new lease on hockey for kids in this situation. As for the ice time, if everyone would take a good hard look at it, the benefits for Calgary as a whole far out weight the negatives as everyone would see a level playing field for their child as well as a more balanced ice opportunity.
Don't shoot me, but I can't help but see the neigh sayers as being somewhat selfish. The whole "I have it better than you, and I'm trying to protect that fact" thing.

At any rate, I'm curious to see what other points of view are out there, maybe help me understand the "Cons" a little better, because taking the "For the greater good of Calgary's Minor Hockey" I really can't see any past superficial ones. (The arguement between the haves and have nots).

Sound off, but keep the spit to a minimum.
