Dog kills Quebec Newborn
Absolutely horrible situation. Apparantly is was the dog of someone visiting the family's home. I can't imagine what either party is going through right now. I am sure the dog will be paying the ultimate price in this, but what about the owner of the animal? How does a situation arise where a pair of Huskies are within striking distance of a 3 week old infant? As a parent how do you leave your child in this situation.... just so many questions to be asked.
As an owner of a 10 lb miniature weiner dog that might be able to inflict damage to your toe nail on a good day I even shorten the leash when I walk by people, especially kids. You just never know when a dog decides it doesn't like someone. Either way, regardless of the situation or lapses in judgement, nobody deserves to go through something like this.

And people don't know these hell-hounds are evil? Look at those eyes -- and that frown! Easily the most evil looking puppies of any dog species.
Poor kid. That'd be a ruff way to go.
Oh God, I deserve to pay the price for this.

A dingo ate my baby!
Seriously, what a horrible situation. I can't even imagine.

A teen mother and her mother face charges of criminal negligence causing death after a dog mauled and killed a newborn girl on Montreal's south shore on Monday.
....
There was sufficient evidence to arrest both the mother and grandmother, said Quebec police Sgt. Ronald McInnis. Both had left the infant inside to go look at the yard and neither took "care of the baby," he said.

Too many people don't respect the power and strength of big dogs and choose to own breeds that were not even bred for companionship. It's fine if they want to own them, but keep them away from babies for Christs sake.

Wow. You step out for a cigarette with your infant left inside, strapped into a seat around two dogs you don't even own. Unreal. Horrible tragedy.
If these dogs were of the pit variety it would open up country wide debate on whether we should ban the breed, but because it's huskies it's so much easier to blame the owner. Of course the owners/guardians are at fault here, all I'm saying is if it were pit bulls that did this many would look directly at the dogs.

I have two huskies and they are both incredibly sweet dogs who have never shown any aggression. But no matter what the breed I would never leave them unattended around infants or children. Too many things could go wrong, and fast.

Exactly. Too many people take it personally if you tell them the cold and hard truth that no matter how sweet and innocent their dogs are, things can still go wrong. They are not always predictable and good owners always consider that.

I am sorry. I can't help with some things. A three year gets killed and there are still jokes. Why do they have to respond to my post about my shock about it? They will post again and again. Anyway. I should learn to not be shocked at the indignity of it all.
