Default 2009 Scotties Tournament of Hearts

Day 2 of the Tournament of Hearts is Sandra Schmirler Day with over $53,000 raised so far.

Ontario wins on the last rock over Saskatchewan.

Newfoundland and Labrador score 2 in the 10th to send their game with BC to an extra end.

Has anyone else been tuning in to the Tournament so far? TSN has Russ Howard commentating, and I like him in the role so far.

sooooo many missed shots in all games so far. that's the thing with most of the games in the scot until the playoffs, gaining points off of misses rather than makes.

ontario made a sweet touch shot to win that game, tough shot.

I went to Draw 1. Disappointing attendance, but to be expected in such a terrible sports city. Four good games, all close. The BC/Sask game was especially exciting, with the home team making a comeback from down 7-3 going to the 8th to win 8-7 in 10.

Also, there's a pretty blond girl for the Ontario team who was nice to look at on my side of the arena.

I did notice the poor attendance while watching on TV, hopefully it improves as the week goes on.

Team Canada off to a good start, not really surprised about that. Quebec has a nice start too as they sit 3-0.

Hmm, I thought there would be more posters watching.

Anyway, Team Canada (Jones) and BC are both at 4-0, Jones' game is tied 4-4 in the 8th. Jones is playing Team Ontario (2-2) right now. Pretty good game so far, both teams making shots and taking advantage of opportunities. Currently 5-4 for Ontario going into the 9th.

Stefanie Lawton and Saskatchewan (1-3) with a nice lead over Nova Scotia (1-3).

Manitoba and NL (both 1-3) are locked at 3 in the 9th, Manitoba skip just made a draw for 1 going home.

Having watched Lawton and her sister Marliese win silver at the World Juniors way back in 2000 when I started watching curling, I am cheering for Sask to do well. Having roots in the province helps too. I've always liked Jennifer Jones since her outstanding shot to win the tournament in 2005, so her team is my second choice to cheer for.

What about everyone else, who are you cheering for?

I'm cheering for Jennifer Jones' rink. She's pretty and really good. Great finish to her game against Ontario tonight.

Also cheering for BC, just cause I'm from BC.

I'm going to the afternoon draw tomorrow. Also going to try and get a ticket for the final.

Jennifer Jones' rink is no longer undeafeated, she was beaten by Saskatchewan and Stephanie Lawton's rink, she got one in the 10th end to beat Team Canada 7-6. I didn't actually watch it, I don't get TSN here (it really sucks not to have it), just going by their website, sounds like a good game. Good for Lawton who had a bad start at 0-3 but is now 3-3. I also like Jennifer Jones but I'll always cheer for Saskatchewan.

So after the Flames win I flip over and see that Canada is losing to Yukon/NWT 6-4! Wow!

Wow if Canada loses to NWT/YT, that's a big upset. Maybe they are rattled from the close loss to Sask? That would be weird though, they usually rebound just fine.

The Sask-Canada game was really good, I was out of class and got to watch the last half.

I think BC's Marla Mallett is the biggest surprise so far, I mean, this is her first Tournament of Hearts after winning Juniors in.. 88 or 89? Good for her, though!

Huge match between Alberta and Saskatchewan right now. Both teams will be fighting for one of the final two playoff spots. This match will go a long way to deciding who gets in if there's a tie.

I agree malcolm, what a good game it was too! Goes to the 11th but Lawton doesn't have to throw her last rock as Bernard is heavy on her second draw after throwing a perfect first rock.

What's the tiebreak procedure if 6 teams are tied for 3rd at 6-5?

I went to this live today, first time I have ever seen curling live.Much better live than on TV though with 4 games going at once and you get a better idea of far the rock travels with the little amount of space some shots need.

Few cute girls made it worth it, don't know if it is my type of game, but probably won't go again.

BC and Quebec will play in the 1/2 page playoff.

Saskatchewan will play the winner of the tiebreaker between PEI and Team Canada.

No real surprises I don't think, there were a lot of good teams this week, evident from the number of teams that were at 4 losses and there could have been more tiebreakers. Go Team Saskatchewan!!

Well, the Scotties website showed draws for 3 different tiebreaker games, so I think by playing more than 1 game during these times, the ties would be broken. I'm not sure though, fortunately they didn't have to worry about it.
