Default Gmail Problems

Okay I'm on the phone with my mom who needs help with her gmail. I don't use gmail myself so I have no idea what is going on but it seems that she is not getting new emails in her inbox.

Some of them randomly skip the inbox and will only appear in "All Mail". She has no filters or anything set up. This just happened a few days ago.

She is complaining big time that she isn't getting her emails in her inbox. I told her to just goto "All Mail" instead of the inbox but she doesn't want that. She wants all her new emails to appear in the inbox and not the "All Mail" folder.

She only uses gmail through the webclient (gmail.com) and occasionally on a Nokia E71.

Any ideas what is going on? I googled this quite a bit and it seems many people have this problem but there are no definite answers and everybody seems confused.

Set her up with a proper email client like Thunderbird. Gmail is simple to set up with it.

That's odd, gmail is usually pretty fail safe. You could set it up through thunderbird, but then she'd be missing out on some of the gmail advantages. I've had problems the other way around with my mail client not pulling from gmail properly. Sorry I can be of no help.

She has to have a rule setup to "skip inbox" archive it.

Gmail doesnt do that automatically. Check under Settings > Labels or Filters

Or even easier, have her give your her username and password and you check.

Speaking of gmail problems (sorry, OP, I'm gonna post in your thread) is anyone else noticing that it's taking wayyyy longer to open? Usually the wait from password>enter to it being open and loaded is less than 5 seconds. For some reason it's taking more like 20 lately. WDF?

They have added a few new features. It works fine for me in IE7, about 8 seconds this morning after I logged in.

Okay, we figured out what was wrong. I don't know why, but the Google "Labs" feature was running which is Google beta testing wierd buggy stuff.

I add to add labs=0 to the url and disable the Google Labs and gmail is working again.
