Billy Bob Thorton's band gets booed, pulls out of Canada
http://jam.canoe.ca/Movies/2009/04/10/9079891-sun.html
The tour turned sour on Thornton after his bizarre interview on CBC radio's Q earlier this week hit the airwaves and the Internet.
He was booed by a Toronto Massey Hall crowd, which also made catcalls, Thursday night.
Billy Bob Thornton & the Boxmasters have pulled out of their Canadian tour with Willie Nelson and Ray Price and will not be at the John Labatt Centre in London, Ont. Saturday night.
Glad to hear this. He acted like a total arrogant ######bag, and it bit him in the ass. What a shlub.
The only guys I feel sorry for are his bandmates, who seemed pretty uncomfortable at his stupids antics during the interview. Those guys just wanted to play each night on the tour and do what they love, and now their arrogant drummer has ruined that for them.

he is just a drummer? no offense to real drummers out there, he can easily be replaced by a less ######y drum machine.

What a goof. I'm glad he was given the reception he deserved, but it is too bad for the rest of the band.
For curiosity sake, I went to the Boxmasters website which claims the rest of the Canadian portion of the tour was cancelled due to "one band member and several of the crew having the flu".
There is also a link to an article on their website from swampland.com called "In Defense of Billy Bob Thornton: When Context Isn't Truly Context". I thought it was kind of funny. It included this about Jian Gomeshi:
Throughout this controversy it hasn't been widely reported, but Ghomeshi was a member of a music group called Moxy Fruvous, a Canadian band that received little to no notice in the USA despite being critically lauded in its home country. In fact, their initial label, Atlantic Records, wouldn't release its second record in the US. Moxy Fruvous has been on record in saying that they felt they weren't a priority at Atlantic.
Is it at all possible that Ghomeshi's own point of view is clouded by his own lack of success in America? Could he be lashing out because he clearly perceives that Thornton's only musical success is due to his acting fame?
Full article is here if anyone's interested:

^^^^ I've heard of Moxy Fruvous. They did a wicked silly song called Green Eggs & Ham. I'm also familiar with Billy Bob's stuff and I'd go see Moxy Fruvous rather than BBT 10 times out of 10. Billy Bob's music sucks. He's a half decent actor so that's what he should stick with.

The way he acted in the interview was idiotic but I the radio host who started asking him questions about his acting career, which he supposedly agreed not to do before the interview, was an idiot himself.

I didn't know Gomeshi was part of Moxy Fruvous.... I loved that band. Or at least their first real album (Bargainville). I saw them live twice... great funny stuff.
But, if you really wanted to make it big in the U.S. would you write lyrics like:
"Meet me in the river valley where you can tell me stories
About a magical time before Dippers, Grits and Tories?"

The mention of his acting career was really brief, maybe only 10 seconds, he wasn't dwelling on it.

I hope Canada made Billy Bob wear protection.

I like the way we've been defending our Canadian honour lately. First that comedian from the Fox Red Eye show gets sent packing from his Canadian shows, now Billy Bob. Awesome. Don't dis Canada.

Two words: Bad Santa. If he's turning his acting career into a fortay into music, he must be a crap drummer.

The host clearly said in the interview that he had no idea that he wasn't supposed to mention the acting.

The real victim is Brad Pitt who is now with Angelina Jolie. Must be tough knowing she was married to this dude and also dated her brother.

You know, the comment about Canada really didn't bother me. We do tend to be more mellow on average. Some people find it to be a positive trait.
The only thing that offended me was hit indignant attitude towards the radio host.
