I don't know about any specific ones that are better than the rest. I usually just go to the one that is most convenient for me at the time.

One recommendation though is to not go to one where people are washing their work trucks, RVs, etc. I've found that since these trucks are usually dirtier than the typical mini-van found at all the other washes, the grim n debray stays on the brushes and gives a fine scratch to your car's paint (and I always spray down the brush before it touches my car).

Car wash line ups, like bank line ups are one of those strange pockets of space where time seems to stand still. A five minute wait feels like half an hour. This is why I always wash my truck at non-peak times. Like in the middle of the night at the 24/7 car wash at Richmond road and 37th st.

I once, was able to pull into a free bay there, all the other bays had 2 cars lined up.

Did some guy get shot and killed by the cops late at night recently though?

Can I wash my car on the street?

Under the Drainage Bylaw (37KB), you may use only water to clean your car. If you are washing your car on the street, you must not use any kind of soap or anything other than water, and your car must not be overly dirty. The Drainage Bylaw states that only water may enter the storm sewers.
What is the fine for washing my car with soap on the street?

The specified fine for disobeying this section of the bylaw is $3000 for a first offence.
Can I use biodegradable soap to wash my car on the street?

No. Soaps and detergents are prohibited substances under the Drainage Bylaw. Only plain water can be used to wash vehicles.

My favorite car wash is a do it yourself deal, in Airdrie on 8th Street by the Esso. Clean, fast, open until 2200 hrs, and can pay using change or credit card. No need to ever use the brush things except on windshields (if you use rain-ex which doesn;t spray off). Just pre-soak, soap spray, rinse, clear coat, rinse, wax, spot free rinse. Ends up costing about $9.

Other than that, if I am in a bind and my baby is dirty, I will use an Esso touchless wash. Never ever use the ones with those swinging sponge things if you have half decent paint.

For auto washes, Husky's is the best, with Co-op second.

Best manual wash is the one near the Spy Hill landfill. They take credit cards so you don't have to keep feeding in change.
