Question Pin collecting storage ideas?

While I was working at the Olympics in Vancouver, I was given pin after pin. I didn't realize that pin trading was so still popular at the Olympics and when collectors wanted to give me an arm and a foot for the ones I had, I figured they could have some value. They are media released pins, so I guess they are rare.

What that said, I'm wondering where you can purchase a storage case...perhaps something you can hang instead of a binder. I'd like to display them.

I've checked with Michael's and I thought a memory box might work, but it is the incorrect depth.

Are there any pin collectors that could steer me in the right direction? Thank you in advance!

The pin collectors I've seen all seem to store them on a vest, hat, or some other cloth. I would imagine you could use any sort of container...maybe a pill box like this.

^^^^^^

That's pretty much what I used as a kid, had a couple hundred pins. Tackle-box inserts intended for fishing lures. Cheap, effective and always available.

Another thing if you're wanting to display them, you could get a standard picture frame from Wal-mart with matting, and a complimentary background backing.

You can arrange the pins in which ever arrangement you like, in that case, there was a total of 54 pins so I made 3 of them up in groups of 18.

The backing is just cardboard which you push the pin through. The little black things behind each pin are little pieces of felt that help to keep each pin in place (they do tend to slide around if there's no felt)

Hope that helps.

I have all my 88 Olympic pins on a meter long sheet of fabric, I think its felt. They've been on it for 20ish years now.

Some results of a Google search for Pin Display Case:

Caged Greats idea for the picture frame looks good and would be cheap and easy. Probably way better than these overpriced display cases.

Thank you for the replies!

The pill case came to mind for me too. I think I'd like to display them and perhaps hang them if possible. That looks great Caged Great! Wow! Thanks for the photos it really describes the image I've had in my head. I'm not sure why I didn't google it myself earlier. Thanks

I have them on felt right now and considered framing that too.

This is easy. Take a piece of cloth, wrap it around a dowel at the top, staple it, feed a small length of rope through the top, and hang it on your wall. You can make it as cheap or as nice as you want.

Sorry for the ghetto paint skills, but something like this:

This is what I use at home to display pins and it works perfectly. I used a nice dark green piece of felt for it and a white rope.

I'd suggest a hat, but don't wear it when it's full of pins. Strangely becomes completely uncomfortable after about 10 pins.

I know that the Olympics had an 'official pin trader bag'. It was going for $60, but might now be $30 where I work. There was also these options...Linky
