American Lit
European Lit
World (non-european) Lit
Children's Lit
Science Fiction
Fantasy
Fiction - Wildcard
Mass/Pulp Fiction (mystery, horror, thriller, romance)

Non-fiction - memoir / biography

Pre-20th century or Poetry

24 teams and 20 categories.

Mulligans not necessary - you can trade categories.

Trades! (YOU CAN TRADE PICKS AND CATEGORIES) you can make trades but it has to be zero-sum since every team needs 20 books. For example Team A can trade the 1st and 40th pick to Team B for the 5th and 6th pick. Even after you have selected a book you can trade. There is no trade deadline however there will be no trades allowed after the very last pick. POST YOUR OWN TRADES. You can offer books/categories for trade in this thread.

Make use of PMs and the chatroom to negotiate.

Trade talk can go here:

http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=65448

Switching!
At any time you can switch a book from one category to another if it qualifies for it.

--

When you are selecting please state in BOLD letters who you are selecting and in what category.

example: With the 1st overall pick of the draft, GirlySport's In-Box selects ......... in the Can Lit category.

And you can use a paragraph to state your case of why you made this selection and convince everyone why this book was great. You've seen how it's been done in the other drafts. We're all here to learn!

Author, title and year of first publication

Picture of cover (if available)

Then, whatever is interesting:

Synopsis of book

Literary critic's review

youtube video may be available in some cases (books that have been made into films or documentaries, book reviews)

--

Ass-kickin'!: When it's your turn you have 24 hours to select. After 24 hours the draft will continue on until you come back and pick. Your name will have brackets around it in the thread title. If your turn is coming up and you are away, please send 3 choices to me and I will select for you.

- If you see a name in the thread title with a * beside it, that means they have submitted their pick to the commish.

That's pretty much it. Any questions you can ask in here or PM me...

And I would like to trade Food & Drink or Poetry for pretty much anything else. Of course, if there is a Non-Fiction or Misc category, you really like, I'd be willing to trade to build up my stronger categories.

I think you worked out how to handle traded categories?

I think it will take a bit of trial and error. I have a few ideas, but we'll need to have a few in place to see if it will work out.

I plan on putting a mark in the original person/category with an ID#
I will put what the final selections are at the bottom, so the categories align. This means the spreadsheet will grow, how much depends upon the number of trades. My thinking being that if you want to know if a book was taken, you would have a general idea of the category(s) and that will be easier to scan.
Finally, I created another sheet where I can put the details of the trade, in case more info is needed. I don't know if this will be required, but it is available.

But as I say, I'll need to try one or two to see how it looks once laid out.

Would you like my pre-20th century or poetry pick for either one of those? If so, we can trade......

Open offers can be made in this thread, but trade respones should be done by PM.

Or maybe, all trade talk can be moved to workshop thread?

With the 1st overall pick of the draft, RougeUnderoos' In-Box selects ......... in the American Lit category, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

First published in 1925.

I like this book a lot. More than any other. Maybe not the greatest book ever (which the first pick perhaps should be) but definitely my favourite. The Modern Library says it's the second best novel ever written. Take that for what it's worth.

He paints a great picture of the 20's. It makes you want to wear a white suit and drink a fancy drink and make out with Daisy on a chaise lounge. That's originally why I liked it when I first read it in high school.I've read it several times since and there is considerably more to it than that, but that's what got me.

I won't bother getting to fancy describing it. Suffice it to say, there is a love story, class warfare (sorta), a great villain (really, he's more of a prick than a villain), lots of drinking, greed, jealousy, violence, gangsters, God, ambition, and some other stuff. It's a great story and it looks really cool.

They've made at least two movie versions, but neither of them did the story justice. Mia Farrow as Daisy? Come on. And apparently there has been a play, an opera and even a ballet produced. Yeesh. I can't imagine.

It was apparently a bit of a flop and didn't become a "classic" until after Fitzgerald drank himself to death (an author, you don't say) in 1940.
