Default Roloson lost in the desert

The Sharks have sent D-wayne Roloson do the Desert Dogs for backup Alex Auld and a couple 3rd's. Roloson will be a big upgrade on Auld next season and a legit starter but the Sharks are in need of some cheese space this year so we made the move.

Good luck to Roli in Phoenix, hopefully Auld doesn't dissapoint here.

As stated, the move opens up some cheese which hopefully allows us to be buyers as the deadline nears.

Hmm...curious to see how this opened up Cheese room for you. You took on Auld and sent 3.25 in the deal didn't you, which would equal out the salary of the two goalies?

I think it's a good move for both teams, Auld is still a capable backup and the Coyotes do get a guy who can start for them next year.

I think he was talking about the 3.25 M that was taken off the max of 18 mill you can get in a year. He now has an extra 3.25 M to work with in a deal.

It didn't open up cap room, that equals out, but I was almost maxed out in Cheese space before that deal. Now, if I find the right fit, I can take on more salary in a deal.

Edit: What Neil said.

The Coyotes would like to welcome Roli to the desert. While we accept some risk of a declining asset on an expensive contract, it was a deal that had to be done in our point of view. It gives the team a decent starter next year while Quick continues his development. If Roli doesn't croak by years 2 & 3, we expect he will continue to mentor Quick and possibly end up in a tandem situation. This deal should help the Coyote's chances of being competetive if some other holes on the team are filled through free agency. Thanks to the Sharks for the eventual deal.

With Tim Thomas being a vezina candidate this year it makes perfect sense. Rolli is a starter and that is exactly what the Coyotes need.

I like this deal for the Coyotes because they now have an official #1 tender.
