All I can think of is luck, that the tide carried him in that direction. Once he could see land, I presume he would try to get there.
Amazing story. I would have difficulty surviving four months on an island...hard to find food...hard to get shelter...hard to get fire going...no Calgarypuck! (the horror! the horror!)
