Tuxedo Source for Sports is pretty good...if you happen to be a referee, say so and you'll get a discount on the lid for sure.

Gear is all about the feel...go try everything on in your price range and buy whatever feels right. I found the Easton lid to be too narrow, but my Reebok 6K is really nice.

I like a long and narrow glove without much wrist movement so I got a pair of NBH Supreme 70's...great glove as far as I'm concerned. If you want something where you can bend your wrists a whole bunch I'd go with a pair of Eagle's probably. They're a really well put together glove.

I know that for gloves, I tried the CCM's and found them really uncomfortable... Anyone have any experience with the RBK versus the Warrior gloves? I like the "Broken Knuckle" idea.

I typically get my stuff at Professional Skate Services. Their prices are any different than anywhere else but I find they a far more knowledgeable and they have a large selection varying in price.

I personally like gloves that have a lot of movement to them. I have a pair Easton gloves but like Berger 4 said, Eagle's are excellent gloves. As for helmets, it's all how it fits you... probably something you shouldn't cheap out on though

For your helmet, whatever you do, dont cheap out and get a huge space helmet from Canadian Tire or Wal-mart.

Don't get one of these:

The more expensive ones are lower profile, and tend to fit a lot better.
The Bauer 4000's and 5000's are the standard helmets which most guys have.

Get one like this:

If it feels good, get it. Like I said, try all the helmets in your price range on...personally I don't like the fit or look of the NBH helmets. The Bauer 4000 or 5000's are pretty nice though.

I forgot to mention I had a Mission Intake helmet, and I absolutely loved the thing. It was awesome.

I find the RBK helmets the most comfortable at first until I tried on the Mission ones.

If youre going for a helmet like that, you might as well get the 5000 that dubc80 mentioned. It'll be cheaper and those helmets have been around for a long time and people still buy them by the bucket load so your know they're good. I'm personally partial to Easton gloves myself. The RBK and new Bauer ones seem not have as much protection, subsituted for a little more mobility (which is minor). But like everyone says, get what feels best. And if you don't have any questions for the staff it doesnt really matter where you go, most sports places have the same basic inventory. I usually go to Play It Again in Westhills or Sportcheck in Market (which actually surprises me at their hockey selection)

So I went down to Adrenalin Source for Sports today.... Wandered around looking at the different options, and I have to agree. I found the Eagle gloves incredibly comfortable.
My issue was, there was no one willing to help me try on a helmet or 2...
That is my next challenge.

Yell at them. Or ask one of the older guys to help you out...they're usually better at getting you what you want/need versus what gets them the most coin. Don't be one of those guys that goes and tries everything on at a legit sports store then runs to SportChek or whatever and buys the same thing for cheaper. It happened like that in Camrose and we didn't have a decent sports store for two years.

alan21, I'd have to agree with you. Nothing compares with my Intake lid...too bad the bolts rusted in on the front so I couldn't mount a new visor.

Helmets are really a personal choice. Everybody has a different shaped head, so each one will fit different.
For gloves, if you have a fair amount to spend, get yourself something with and anti-microbial and/or dri fit lining. That'll help the gloves stay dry and smell free. Warrioir tends to do this really well. If you're looking for a good feel on your stick try to get something with a Nash palm. It wears out a little quicker, but the feel is second to none. Also make sure your thumb and wrists move comfortably, but that's a personal choice. Some people prefer a "beefier glove like the supreme one 90, while others will prefer a more flexible feel similar to the graf's or eagles.

I just ordered my set of Eagle PPF's! Should be ready in about 2 weeks!
Im going to try and settle on a helmet right away... So far its looking more and more like a NB, Easton or Mission...
Thanks to everyone here for your help with this!
I never would have though to buy Eagle gloves until people on here reccomended them.
