Default Alcohol and Drug Tests?

Tomorrow I have to take an alcohol and drug test for a job I applied for. The drug test is stright forward, but will I fail the alcohol portion if I have a few tonight watching the game?

No, just keep it to a few and make sure you drink water in between and after.

Is it a breathalyzer or urine test? With breathalyzers, each .05 in your bloodstream takes an hour to not be detactable. If it's a urine test, those will now check for any alcohol in a 72 hour period. I am far more familiar with these tests than I'd like to be.

Show up, look around with a puzzled expression and then ask, "Uh, where are the drugs and alcohol you want me to test?"

what kind of job tests for alcohol? isnt that a violation of your civil liberty? why not test for tomato or oranges, they are just as illegal?

My guess is commercial driving or something operating heavy machinery. They tend to be pretty strict.

Alcohol tests are pretty common, and they're definitely not a violation of any liberty.

I had a buddy fail one a few yeas ago. We got pretty hammered the night before, so I'd think if you keep it in check and drink lots of water you'll be alright.

BTW, it's typically not a urine or breath test. They just do swab of your mouth.

Drinking is illegal now, haven't you heard?

Unless, of course, the test is to determine if you're drinking at work, which I agree probably isn't a good idea

a) he doesnt work there, he applied there ... so what are the testing for?
b) i can understand if you are a heavy equipment operator that you cant drink on the job (or any job for that matter) but testing for alcohol use att this stage does what to protect the worker?
c) isnt it discrimination to have a policy to not hire alcoholics? do they test for diabetes and epilepsy too? they are diseases like alcoholism.

i still am not sure why this is even legal as a condition of employment. i must be missing something, because unless you are banned completly from consuming alcohol as a condition of employment, why are they pretesting? only non employees cant drink?

No matter how bad all the self pitying, apologist, self absorbed, morons who just want an excuse to not take responsibility for their actions alcoholism DOES NOT fit the scientific/medical criteria for a disease. AA is a joke. There are far superior alcohol recovery methods available. For disclosure purposes, alcoholism runs in my family and none of them were ever pathetic enough to blame it on a disease. Poor self control maybe, but never a disease.

/End Rant.

I take about 4 to 5 of these a year. All companies in Fort Mac require it before you go on site. The drug test is a urine sample. The alcohol test is the breathalyzer which make absolutely no sense whatsoever. You do it on a Wednesday but don't show up for work until Monday. If you just have a few you should be fine in the morning.

No shiz. Diabetics can't just put down the sugar. Epileptics can't just stop having seizures. Alcoholics simply need to put down the bottle. What's the worst that happens? Cravings? It's like saying that smoking is a disease. (FTR, I drink and smoke)

I know, that is why I labeled it a rant and not a response.

It's obviously legal, these are private companies screening prospective employees for drug and alcohol abuse, there's nothing remotely illegal about that.

These tests weed out people who don't have the ability to not show up to alcohol tests while still drunk, seems like a pretty smart idea to me. If I tell someone they have to do an alcohol test and they can't pull off not being drunk for it what are the chances they show up for work every day? And if you do show up what are the chances that you're still half cut?

I went out with no drinks consumed. Just wondering if something would show up if I did. It's a job at a power company that deals with high voltage. I also agree that theres no point for an alcohol test seeing how most people will have at least one drink on the weekend, but figure it is there to see how stupid sombody could be.
