Default Hawks pick up vet goalie

Chicago wanted to shore up a couple spots before they walked into the playoffs and they got three chores done on Sunday.

First, they found out they had sign Danny Markov as their 6th dman. The loss of Orpik had left a hole on D and it was either time to call up Campoli and lose a piece such as Byron Ritchie or go get someone. Markov came in at the perfect price.

We then shored up our goaltending by picking up Olie the goalie to back up Dipietro for the rest of the season along with Brian Willsie and a 2nd round pick. Going back to Phoenix was Alex Auld and a 4th rounder. We had debated about keeping Auld at the 3 year rate or not in the off-season but this settled our debate. We felt that getting back a 2nd rounder for him was about market value and then picking up two vets for the playoffs was huge.

Kolzig has not been great this season but we know what EX and LD can bring during the playoffs...Willsie steps onto the 4th line, unfortunately we could not receive enough cap to keep everyone on our roster so goodbye Ritchie.

Seems to be a pretty good move for both PHX and CHI. Chicago wanted to improve their back-up goalie and they definitely did that with Kolzig. PHX has a pretty brutal goaltending situation but they are definitely improving on it. I think it was a good move trading for Auld as he should have decent ratings next year.

Good moves for both teams.

Yeah the last previous Phoenix GM put that team in a bad position when he took on Kolzig. Kolzig is a good goaltender for a playoff bound team to have because he has won a fair bit in CPHL playoffs. But for a non playoff team it's hard to get market value for him when his NHL status is what it is and he's a pending CPHL UFA.

Good move for both sides as the Hawks are gearing up for a playoff run and the Coyotes at least get something back in net for next season.

Not a bad trade, not too sure why the 2nd rounder had to be included though.

Good job by the Yotes to improve their goaltending situation for next season. Auld is decent, and should be able to start next season, or at least be traded for a different starter.
