I didn't realise the government could just seize and sell off assets like this? Is it a case of an unpaid fine?

I'd buy it just to watch it sink. Or maybe convert it into a badass sealing vessel, complete with automated clubbing.

It belonged to the hippies. The government can seize anything that belongs to hippies or aliens.

By selling it, they provide a stimulant to the economy. A win/win for everyone involved, except the hippies, but at least they have contributed something meaningful to society for the first time in their miserable lives.
