No link yet (other than a headline on MSNBC) but reports are that he died of emphysema
Edit: Is there any way to edit thread titles?

Amazing guy. We bought some of his greatest moments videos that were being sold on TV a few year back, and they were genius. A lot of great talent was discovered on his show as well. He'll be missed.

Wow.
Just saw some blurb on him while flicking through the channels earlier this week.
Too bad...back in the day when there wasn't cable and all these channels, he was the guy and his was the show that everyone talked about he next day.
If you ever watch the infomericals for the tonight Show DVD collection (and, likely, the tributes that will follow in the next few days), he did some hilarious and cutting edge/risque stuff for the 60, 70's, 80's...
RIP

Carson has had emphysema for years. It's actually probably the main reason he retired in the first place.
He did a wonderful job of keeping himself out of Hollywood's nasty spotlight after he left too. No Enquirere headlines reading Carson's Sad End or something disrespectful like that.
Great comic mind, who inspired great comedy from others (the SNL skits about the Tonight Show are some of the best SNL material ever). Never forgot his roots and was very fond of his hometown of Norfolk, Nebraska.
Sad to see him go, but he certainly was suffering for a long time. Very nasty way to die.

I saw a story only a few days ago that he was, if I remember right, ghost-writing jokes for the Letterman Show.
So a comedian right to the end.

I did not know that.
The only thing I remember hearing about him since he retired was that he was an avid tennis player.
He played himself on a Simpson's episode way back and Bart wonders aloud if he's maybe the best entertainer in the world. Johnny juggled a 1987 Buick Skylark while singing an old song. His IMDB list goes back to 1955 but I'm sure he was in show-biz before that.

Subtle Rouge, subtle.
One of the funniest men ever, he will be missed for sure. His quick wit.. and most of all his timing were second to none.

I didn't appreciate Johnny until his final years of the Tonight Show when I suddenly realized what a genius he was. I regret not realizing sooner as I missed out on years of comedic gold.

The thing I remember about Johnny Carson were a couple of appearances on Get Smart which were absolutely hilarious, one as a conductor on a train in Europe and the other, I think, as a butler.
Just cameos, but vintage.
