Default Dateline NBC Episode about HHO and other magic gas economy increase methods

http://www.popularmechanics.com/auto...o/4310717.html

I'll have to record this, interested to watch it.

Glad they're doing some real controlled testing, I'm tired of listening to people claiming magical increases of 3x on their fuel economy because the just happen to have had to drive up a mountain to have their system installed.

I remember when I was in high school I was convinced I could make a car run on Hydrogen created through electrolosis, and then I took grade 11 Chem and Physics. It was pretty easy to see that it wouldn't due to the sheer amount of electricity required to produce enough Hydrogen.

Grade 11 chem and phyiscs taught you that? Half the year in Chem back in those days was doing water displacement and calculating mols and possibly calculaing energy in joules from by burning something. Physics stoppped at calculating momentum/inertia and force.

That part did, yeah.

I don't remember the specifics but one thing I remember for sure was me pestering my mechanics teacher to estimate the amount of fuel that was in each cylinder when it fired. I assumed you needed to create that much energy, then figured out how much hydrogen it would take to create that much energy and how long it would take to cook that much hydrogen using a car battery.

The time required to do it was pretty long in comparison to how long it takes for one piston to fire, like several hundred times +++ longer. The worst part about the whole ordeal was I wrecked a pair of pants by handling the car battery and my family was pretty hard up for cash at that point in time so I had to wear pants with acid holes burned in the side for the rest of the year.
