Throw in a 7.7 Earthquake and that makes for a pretty scary day in Tonga.

It looked like they were filming it from a dive boat!

I wonder if there were divers under the water when it erupted

That is great. Is there any footage out there showing the initial blow-up?

No kidding! I was diving in Tonga at Christmas this year... yeesh, I don't want to imagine how badly you'd get hamburgered into the coral.

It's not completely surprising though, there's volcanos all over the place around Tonga, most of the islands have volcanic reefs around them.

Jesus ef, that's crazy.

The ocean scares me enough as it is, but I would dump in my pants if I saw that up close.

My next trip is somewhere on the Red Sea.

I was hoping that the footage was underwater as well - like National Geographic or something. Still pretty cool to see though.

It's really good. Great visibility (~40m), lots of sealife, and very uncrowded since there's only one small dive charter on the island (Foa) that we went to. We saw turtles, sharks, grouper, barracuda, and tons of reef fish. The best time to go is in the fall (your fall) though, you can dive with the Humpback Whales. If you ever want to go, the people are fantastic at Happy Hai'pai Divers. My g/f is an experienced diver, and she was impressed.

Red Sea would be great. Unfortunately, I can't really compare notes, I only got certified on the Tonga trip. Going diving in New Zealand next month, though. I live in Australia, hence the travel in this part of the world.

Pretty neat.

I love at the end of the video, 'Turn the boat around.' Haha, I guess so!

So that's why they shut down all the beaches in Hawaii yesterday!
Stoopid Tonga... ruined the last day of my vacation!
