Default buying new car - which way works best?

I hate dealing with car dealers and haggling over price and still feeling I got screwed. I'm looking go buy a new car and am considering one of these ways.

A. www.dealfinder.ca. Pay them $159 and they guarantee to get you the best price. No salesman to deal with. You just go over and pick up your car. I like that idea.

B. I've heard of people using this technique with other large purchases but not for cars. I get the fax numbers of every dealer that sells the car I want and send them a fax that says this: Mr. Sales Manager, I want to buy this specific car with these specific features. Please fax me your best price within four days. I'm offering this to x dealers and will buy from the dealer that faxes me the best offer. You only have one shot at this. After that, there will be no negotiation. Thank you.

I'm sold on A choice but I wonder if B might also work well. Which would you do?

I have also heard of Plan B as well, although haven't heard of anyone doing it. It was in the book "A Millionaires Mind" I believe. If you do go this route please let us know as I'd be interested to how it turns out.

does the dealfinder site only deal with specific dealers? as in, do dealers sign up with the site so they can be sent the request?

PM me and I will see what I can do. Depending on what you are looking for I might be able to make it easy. Just enclose the make and model you want a long with the options. I worl for a large dealer group so I might just be able to cut right to the chase with you. If you are looking for a VW, I can make it real easy.

I've helped friends and myself buy about 5 new cars in the last year. This has been foolproof.

1) Figure out exactly you want in your car. Color, options (both factory and dealer installed), and trim level.

2) Go to: http://carcostcanada.com/1/en/default.asp and get a cost report which will list the invoice pricing, the amount the dealer pays to the manufacturer.

3) Add 3-5% on to the invoice cost. Dealers have to eat too.

4) Carcost will automatically trigger a call to a dealer that subscribes to the program. Tell him your price.

5) Phone a bunch of other dealers in the area and tell them your price. They either match it or they don't.

6) Pick the lowest!

Once you've done 1), the rest can be done from the comforts of your home or office over the phone or internet.

Step 1: Place cash for the new car in a briefcase, leave it under the phone booth at (Insert name of inconspicuous place here). Include a note saying which kind of car you want, and your address.

Step 2: I will pick up the briefcase, and will purchase car for you and drop it of at your house. I will leave the keys in the mailbox.

Plan B will not work. From experience and what I've heard. Many car dealers are just lazy and if you don't walk into see them, they won't bother and the fax will go in the junk mail bin.

My friend called a few dealers asking for the same thing and got the runaround or told he had to come in to talk.

Why not do both? Option B isn't really going to cost you anything....
