Default Aquilini makes pitch for Pacers

Saw it in the Province today, that Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini wants to buy the Indiana Pacers and move them to Vancouver.

I really don't want to get my hopes up, but I hope it happens. Pacers lost an estimated $30m last season.

Disclaimer: as much as I'd like to see it happen, I'm also a realist who realizes it probably won't...

Didn't David Stern state that the team in Vancouver was one of the biggest mistakes he's ever made?

Regardless, I just can't see how a team in Vancouver would work given that we just saw Seattle lose their team last year.

Indiana is basketball country - if it's not working there, it's not working in Vancouver.

I always thought the fans supported basketball in Vancouver until the owner bailed on the team and city.

Anyway, let's play name that team. Vancouver Totems. I would love playing for a team where I could tell all the ball bunnies about my totem.

I thought Stern said he pulled the plug too early on Vancouver.

Seattle didn't work only because of an archaic arena situation for the past decade that limited the revenue streams and fan experience, and constant votes against any public help for a new arena which was badly needed....little to do with a fan support issues.

The Grizzlies were never given a shot to succeed. When your franchise's first pick is Bryant "Big Country" Reeves, you know you're heading to Memphis soon.

Vancouver is too geographically isolated at this point. With Seattle out of the picture, the closest two cities are Portland and Golden State? Ouch. I could see a lot of players pulling a Steve Francis and refusing to go to Vancouver.

I doubt that Vancouver would ever get another NBA franchise, the fans bailed pretty quickly on that team as it got worse.

Thats pretty unacceptable for an expansion franchise.

Plus, would they really take a team out of Indiana? I doubt it.
